I was debating if I should put this in a [Pheromone](https://a314.com/) forum or not, but decided it’s general enough that it best qualifies a a Lounge discussion topic.

I’m off to a fan convention this coming weekend, and discovered they are planning a Speed Dating segment! Something I’ve never done (and I don’t think exists in this pitiful “city” I live in).

So, anyone have any experience with a Speed Dating thing? I know I plan to go in (if they will let me) loaded with at least IOpen and IShine, and as it will be a certain male/female encounter a good dose of IFM. Maybe some a314. Create that “tribal leader” image Mystery talks about…

Those speed dating events are excellent opportunities to wow people with your pheromone enhanced presence.

Selection-wise, looks like you know what you’re doing pheromone wise, even though you don’t get much opportunity to use them where you live. Good job!

Have you ever done speed dating before, or is this our first time?

Well I’m still hoping SOMEONE out there on these forums can add to this discussion besides The Boss… I’d love to get some opinions and feedback about this new-at-least-to-me phenomenon call Speed Dating. (This was my first experience.)

Unfortunately the session(s) I _tried_ to attend at the fan con were pretty much a flop. It seems they added the idea sorta last minute, were unprepared for the turnout, disorganized, and didn’t have much of a clue as to how it’s supposed to be done. Oh well. I did better at striking up conversations while just sitting and waiting for a regular panel session to begin (or during the boring parts of some sessions) or just standing in a line. \<sigh\> Maybe by next year.

The concept however seems good though. It puts together people who _want_ to talk to other people, avoids some of the “fear of approaching” you’d get otherwise, and limits your time so neither party can get their foot stuck in their mouth too easily. But I’m not sure 2 to 3 minutes is enough time for [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) to have a useful effect. Yes they can effect the body quickly, but the brain may not get the message for a while… Perhaps the best effects are the effects they have on you (if any). They are also very good practice sessions, as you can try out a variety of “approaches” in a short time one right after another, although you have to be able to adapt quickly as they follow in relatively rapid sucession.

Probably the best thing I got out of the SD attempt was while standing in line. I got to watch a PUA pro in action working the ladies. You could tell he wasn’t there for the SD part, he was targeting those in line. He’d move right in with the handshake and name introduction and take it from there. Got to see attitude, body language, and all in action. Cool. Certainly cheaper than a David DeAgelo seminar.

Note: I was wearing a combo of 2 IShine, 2 IO, 2 IFM, and a bit of a314 left over from a 2-drop application about 12 hours earlier. The sprays were applied (renewed actually) about 4 hours before the sessions were scheduled to begin (about 8 hours after initial application of same). Not sure if they had any effect on the ladies during the session itself (see comments above).

i’ve never considered going to any speed dating (or any pre-arranged event for that matter) but it seems to me as though a speed dating event or something similar would be a great opportunity to use the “Be there, be excellent, be gone” approach.

it really only takes a few seconds/minutes to create that attraction spark and as soon as you leave she will be thinking about you, what more could any guy ask for?

That fact was on my mind as well. Make a quick, intense first impression, then be “forced” apart. And hope that there was enough interest/curiosity/whatever built up to bring em back. The one SD thing I did was on so late that just about everybody left soon after it ended, otherwise I would have made it a point to mingle more. They hadn’t made provisons for information exchange so there wasn’t going to be any traditional contact followup thing like a better-run SD event would have had. But it _was_ their first attempt, and for me, a good training run. Now if I can just find something like that locally…

Speed Dating would be an ideal scenario to use mixes or social techniques that are emotionally polar, where people either love you or hate you.

When you’re definitely, without a doubt meeting 30 or so people in a row, why not? The middle ground certainly won’t get you anywhere nearly as fast.

Meta message is all

and the details of what you say probably don’t matter very much … -

By the way, my experience is that a pure speed-dating event squanders the potentially very powerful social proof aspects of having a strong phero signature. Much better an event where you mingle beforehand and have a speed-dating session later on.

From Tyler Cowen, [Marginalrevolution.com](http://Marginalrevolution.com)

Half of all women make their minds up within 30 seconds of meeting a man about whether he is potential boyfriend material, according to a study on speed-dating.
**The women were on average far quicker at making a decision than the men** [emphasis added] during some 500 speed dates at an event organised as part of Edinburgh Science Festival.
The scientists behind the research said this showed just how important chat-up lines were in dating. They found that those who were “highly skilled in seduction” used chat-up lines that encouraged their dates to talk about themselves in “an unusual, quirky way”.
The top-rated male’s best line was **TC** : yikes, and what kind of British abomination **is** [this](http://www.ukgameshows.com/index.php/Stars_In_Their_Eyes)?] “If you were on Stars In Their Eyes, who would you be?”, while the top-rated female asked bizarrely: “What’s your favourite pizza topping?”
Failed Casanovas were those who offered up hackneyed comments like “Do you come here often?”, or clumsy attempts to impress, such as “I have a PhD in computing”.
Here is [the link](http://news.scotsman.com/scitech.cfm?id=567952006), and yes sadly I prefer my pizza plain. Perhaps some of you must now, over longer periods of time, simply blog your potential conquests into submission. By the way, the researchers also suggest that “travel” is the best topic of conversation for spurring a connection and future dates.

Gonna bump this thread. There hasn’t ben much around here where I live in the way of “Speed Dating,” but I know of one event I’m planning to attend in a couple of months that is supposed to have a SD session or two. Anyone out there with experiences to share? Tips? Approaches? etc?

I have a hunch that pheomones are “too slow” to affect the other person(s) as you make the rounds, so I suppose the main option is something to affect YOU.

Comeon folks, I need all the help I can get…

Not to repeat anything, but basically ignore the format/break the rules. It’s hard and pointless to wait to get a girl to tick you. So mingle before and after - social proof - and get numbers. (Maybe bring a pivot to the event and mingle together. Cheeky but write numbers down all on same piece of paper (and if you feel sneaky, fake the first one 😉

Anyway, above worked for me…

Good suggestions PheroQuirk.

The last SD event I attended didn’t really have “mingling” as part of the deal. They seperated boys and girls the moment they walked in the door. And in this last case, it was so disorganized and ended at such a late hour most everyone just left (mostly by themselves) right after.

PS in my case I might find it necessary to fake about the first 12 numbers…

(kidding… sorta…)

What do you suppose the expected return on time, investment and energy is? I’d guess pretty low on singles events in general (as opposed to things like dances, wine tasting, dinners with interesting guest speakers etc that are ostensibly about something else but in certain incarnations basically a dating market).

My observations seems to be consistent with most peoples priors that there is a separating equilibrium of ‘cool’ people who meet each other ‘incidentally’ vs ‘less cool’ people who congregate at explicitly dating events. I don’t intend to cause offense and I wish it were otherwise - but that has definitely been my experience.

I agree with you PheroQuirk on the above, even though i do intend to test mones in speeddating, curious about how it will go.
