So my friend calls me up in hysterics, crying; things aren’t going well, she needs to get out of her house, etc etc etc nothing good ☹ I say alright I’ll pick you up in a minute (she’s not the most careful driver and I didn’t want her behind a wheel while upset, especially since it was getting dark and rainy). I had just showered. Okay, I have a stash of pheromones; what the hell can I do for her?

Unfortunately, [Instant Female Magic](https://a314.com/product/instant-female-magic/) never worked any magic on me, but on the bright side I had no qualms about dousing myself in it. Since I was in a hurry, I don’t remember exactly how many times I sprayed myself, but it was probably 5-7. I reached for my good ol’ Shine and… no… not the right vibe. I opt for Instant Honesty instead. I’m glad I did. Shine just doesn’t feel right, wearing it around someone while they’re crying… well anyway, I think about 4 sprays of IH x2.

I get to her place, she’s sitting on the ground outside, curled up with her head between her knees ☹ ☹

Once she gets into the car, she throws her bag in the back, mutters a thank you, and curls up again as best as she can. Well I don’t want to drive and just let her sit there, so I wrap my arms around her awkwardly (bad angle), trying to comfort her. Eventually she pulls herself up a bit, places her hand on my arm… she’s no longer crying, just sniffling. I start talking to her, cracking lame jokes, making fun of the people across the street. And–eureka!–she laughs, hooray!

By the time I pulled away (maybe only 10 minutes later!) and started driving, we were talking like nothing was wrong. Just chatting, catching up a bit, lame jokes dominating the conversation. Once we get back to my place and I ask what was wrong, she explains in a calm voice what had happened, and the conversation quickly moves onto happier topics.

I was astonished! This is a friend who will sulk for _days_. She actually takes anti-depressants, but she hasn’t renewed the prescription in several weeks. Usually it is impossible to cheer her up, and she’ll stare blankly at you if you attempt to make her laugh. And this is the first time I’ve seen her so torn up in months, maybe over a year.

I’m just so glad I could help her feel better 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you Androtics!

Great post tealeaves! Reps for caring about a friend and trying to help out!

Maybe you should get her a bottle of [Instant Female Magic](https://a314.com/product/instant-female-magic/) and tell her that’s what helped her forget about what was bothering her. 🙂

Thank you Mark 🙂
Well I’ll definitely give her the rest of my [Instant Female Magic](https://a314.com/product/instant-female-magic/) togo after all of that! As for getting her a big bottle, I’m not even sure that she’ll accept the togo, so I’ll be sure to broach the subject with her. She is distrustful of third-party ‘mood enhancers’ due to not-so-great experiences. If she is willing to try the togo and likes it, I’ll get her a bottle 🙂 It’s better than relying on medication that makes you hungry and tired, for sure!

You’re welcome Tealeaves!

Just make sure to let her know that it’s not for daily use and that overuse could result in her building a tolerence to it. But, on those days when she really needs a pick-me-up that little bottle can be just the trick.

Yea, [Instant Female Magic](https://a314.com/product/instant-female-magic/) can really work some ‘magic’. 🙂

The three sentences are probably connected, certainly the first and the third. 🙄 Maybe as a good friend you might want to talk to her about refilling that prescription. I know there is a lot of discussion about anti-depressants but whatever she was doing since her prescriptions ran out does not seem to be working. Maybe time to go back. If she does not like them - and I know a lot of folks do not for a variety of reasons - at least it gets her back to a balanced emotional state so she can explore other avenues

Everyone, thank you for the warm words. She is doing much better now, and was in much better spirits when I spoke with her today 🙂

You all say how good it was of me to help her in her time of need… but what was I gonna do? Sit at home? 🙄 I was just being a decent human being, so don’t give me too much credit or I might get a big head 😛 I’m sure every one of you would have been there if it was your own friend. You guys are some of the most awesome, friendly, loving people I’ve ever met, after all!

She has only started taking them about four months ago on and off, but yes, her mood was greatly elevated while she was on them. What she didn’t like was that they made her tired, hungry (she has been trying to lose weight), and ‘annoyingly chipper’. Besides that, she hates the thought of outside factors affecting her brain. She only took them in the first place because of the doctors pressuring her into it. I’m reluctant to suggest she stay on the pills for that very reason; she, above all others, should have the say as to what goes into her own body. Until now, I’ve been helping her look into alternative treatments, but maybe a different antidepressant will be better for her? Thank you for your suggestions!

Then they work. Great place to start from …

> [@Tealeaves](#):
>
> What she didn’t like was that they made her tired, hungry (she has been trying to lose weight), and ‘annoyingly chipper’.

Not uncommon side effects. But point out to her that once she gets used to “annoyingly chipper” she will like it. Even relish it. Nothing like being in a great mood when everyone around you feels like they have a hangover. Can you guess I am a morning person?

Seriously - tell her the “chipper” personality is the real her when the medication gets her seratonin levels up where they should be. That is her real personality - not the depressed one who is in pain. She may have gotten used to that one over time but that is not the real her. The real her is happy and chipper and brightens her friends’ lives. She will get used to it and like it even better.

> [@Tealeaves](#):
>
> Besides that, she hates the thought of outside factors affecting her brain.

Maybe help her reframe the discussion. If the SRTIs are helping - albeit with some side effects - than the issue is one of seratoninlevels. It is a slight chemical imbalance. Not a sign of of weakness, moral or mental deficiencies, imperfection or anything else. And if all it takes is something that gets those seratonin levels to where they belong … why not. She is not altering what she thinks - she still has free will and her intellect. In fact she will be able to think even more clearly as she will not feel so terrible. She is not altering her brain - she is getting it back to where it would be if another part of her body was functioning completely normally.

It is like someone with high blood pressure, a heart condition or high cholesterol. If someone she loved had high blood pressure would she encourage them _not_ to take their medicine and potentially suffer crippling or dealy side-effects like blindness or kidney failure?

> [@Tealeaves](#):
>

Of course she should and does. It is a matter of reframing the issue …

> [@Tealeaves](#):
>
> Until now, I’ve been helping her look into alternative treatments, but maybe a different antidepressant will be better for her?

Exactly. There are several out. If she does not like this one try another. I have had friends go through a couple before they found the one that was “right” for them.

You are welcome. Can you guess I have helped at least one friend through this process … ?

Real friends are a blessing. And you are certainly being a blessing in her life right now.

Sorry if I sound like I’m bickering, especially since you are being so helpful and thoughtful with your time, but I feel the need to defend her… she is not always depressed. She is actually quite the cheerful individual, but when it rains it pours, if you know what I mean. It is a bad time in her life, so emotions can get pretty extreme right now. Lately, things have been looking up, but some thoughtless words from another brought her down to ground zero. The pills were to help her get through all the crap, but she didn’t feel like herself while taking them I suppose.

Heh. I have a hard time remembering this myself. I prefer to avoid medication except under extreme circumstances, in part due to the above arguments you say are invalid. Thanks for the reality check… I will do my best to keep this in mind during my next conversation with her, and into the future.

While you’re at it Tea…you may also want to suggest alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs. Of course that depends on how receptive your friend is to these remedies. There are some herbs/vitamin supplements that are excellent for alleviating mild to moderate depression. Here’s a link with posts from me and a few others on this subject…not all of it applies to your friend but you may find some useful information. Just happens to be in one of Bosshank’s threads. 🙂

It is designed for married guys looking to use the [pheromone products](https://a314.com/shop/) here to help things at home. I use pheromones for several purposes - work, social and to enhance life at home. I use multiple approaches especially for home: First - at this point in our lives we know sexual attraction is not the final answer. So my first recommendation is actually what …

Best of luck supporting your friend and helping her find something that will truly work for her. I gently suggest that if she needs a little more help than she’s been getting from conventional anti-depressants and is interested in a way that’s more acceptable/natural…that she find a good nutritionist to head her on the right track.

People quite often do not at first until they either find the right medicine or they adjust to the medicine.

As Bella points out - _lots_ of good options to explore. Good nutrition should _always_ be the starting point for everything.

Well, by the time you hit my age you have been through and seen a couple things … but all the knowledge and experience goes to waste if you cannot pass it on to someone who needs it. And if things get tough - don’t you get discouraged.

Thanks for the link Bella; it was helpful. I didn’t even know they _made_ natural bio identical hormones. I assumed the reason that prescribed hormone treatments were either animal hormones or slightly structurally altered was because it was too difficult to synthesize or some other problem. Turns out it was all for the money! Jeez.

I’m hesitant to suggest it because she might not be able to afford it in the first place, but it’s a good idea, especially since “eat right and exercise” is one of the only “medicines” she is willing to take. She has been doing very well these past few weeks, dieting and exercising, and she is back on track now that her recent breakdown is over with.

She has recently made efforts to improve her diet 🙂 So she is on the right path. To her credit, she is dealing with a lot right now, and trying to be headstrong and mature about it all on her own. I think she will be fine in the end, especially since she is taking several self-improvement measures without my (or anyone else’s) help or suggestion.
