I am hoping to get peoples thoughts on a popular western method known as EFT. This is a method where you tap while concentrating on an emotionally attached negative energy. THe idea is that it will fade away emotionally tied negative energy related to the topic you are giving thought to.

Hmmm sounds interesting. I’ll Google for it.

I think this started with TFT, which was only taught at $100k per seat seminars.

Eventually, the strategies were simplified, and you have derivatives such as EFT (as well as parasitic, mean spirited versions out to rob you such as “The Healing Codes”).

Here’s the hallmark free manual on how to do it:

It’s like acupressure, with the caveat that you don’t want anyone else to see you do it. It looks ridiculous, and I’m certain you could end up in the loony bin if you did it in public.

I think the underlying mechanisms by which it works are due to what are basically shifts in biological perspective.

It’s “well known” in some circles that if you have negative feelings, turning those feelings into pictures allows those feelings to be eliminated (or changed). Shifting from one sense to another helps make our own internal processes more manageable.

EFT seems to move things around intrasense – within the same sense, but it reminds me of the dissociative power of moving from sense to sense.

Interrupting behaviors is also very powerful. It’s an incredibly powerful discipline to 1) notice when you’re doing something suboptimal, 2) stop, and 3) do something else. When you perform EFT real-time, you do this, too.

The affirmation that comes along with EFT is also well designed. It allows you to separate your behavior from your sense of self, which is important. Too often people equivocate what they do with who they are. When you=your behavior, you don’t tend to change, out of this sort of unconscious sense of self-preservation.

When you separate behaviors from your sense of self, you are free to change those behaviors without any sense of loss of self.

It’s the difference between thinking “I’m wrong” and “This thing I’m doing or thinking is not good for me”. This shift of perspective is anything but trivial, and makes real change possible.

Anyway, whether the above makes any sense to you or not, I think EFT is a very simple system that “taps” into a few therapeutc basics that give it some real power.

I’d give it a shot. It seems to work well for many.
