If that’s the nature of your problem, it’s a problem type shared by 99.99% of the world. Virtually no one has a perfectly structured face; some are more photogenic than others (static frame).

However, you are right about the psychological power of the human face – we are drawn to the face as one of the most revealing windows into a person’s nature. Yet what people look at is the dynamic expression of your face! (This is a variation of the “It’s not what you’ve got but how you use it” theme.)

So, here is the “cheap” self-therapy for your “problem” that I would commend to you.

1. Learn how to use your facial muscles to amplify the motility and dynamic expression of your face. An acting class teacher/coach will know exactly what that means.

2. Meanwhile, get someone to take a couple of dozen photos of you making a face / body language in each of the eight following expressions:

3. joy

4. anger

5. fear

6. pain

7. disgust

8. surprise

9. quiet, contented happiness

10. curiosity
That’s a total of about 200 snaps, so a digital camera will be a good thing. Pick the best one of each expression – you can get help from friends, or even from strangers in picking.

Now, go to Kinko’s (costly but good) or to an online vendor ( [Short Run Digital Poster Printing](http://www.shortrunposters.com/index.php) ) and make posters – black and white might actually be better than color. You might be able to get away with 18x24", but 24x36" are better. The image of your face should be MUCH larger than life size.

Then hang the eight posters in your dorm room – yes, you might get some shit from people, just tell them you are learning about your face. Just looking at your own face every day in a variety of expressions will unseat the idea that your face is not attractive at a deep, unconscious level. You can pony up for frames at some point to underscore the DHV of the posters.

NB: Actors and models get used to carrying a portfolio with at least an 11x14 head and shoulders shot (about life size or a bit smaller.) They learn to appreciate the value of their faces. The posters with oversized images work better (more thoroughly), and go to a deeper level more rapidly.

In my neighborhood, the acting class and the set of eight posters would each run about $200. So for under $500, you can forever change your appreciation of your face and your ability to express yourself vividly and in a pleasing way.

Then there’s traditional “talk” therapy with a psychologist or psyhrink. I’d say that route takes too long and costs way more, like maybe $20k more, depending on you and the good doctor. (But you’ll probably get some other stuff cleaned up along the way, so it might be a bargain.)

You could see a hypnotist. If the hypnotist will guarantee success for a couple hundred bucks, 50% up front, 50% after the sessions end (with success) then you might want to consider that route. Trance sessions can certainly change your perception of your own face. And the hypnotist can instill a desire to use your face more expressively, but won’t actually provide you with coaching on how like you’d get in an acting class.

Or, of course, there’s plastic surgery. Yuck.

Okay, I’ve finally decided to say something here…

IMO looks DO matter.

But the deal is that everyone has a _range_ they operate in in terms of judgement. There is no _one_ thing. No “ideal” height for example. No “ideal” weight. No “ideal” hair color. No “ideal” ass.

We may “naturally” feel stronger about someone who say is between 5’2" and 6’2". Perhaps based on our own height, and our own feelings. Perhaps someone taller creates a feeling of intimidation, someone smaller is too “childlike.”

You may notice that “gurus” like David DeAngelo talk about “How to attract hot women” but they wisely don’t ever define “hot.” Why? Well of course it’s because it’s different for everyone. If we want to use that common HBabe/HGuy rating system… I might find someone a 8.5, where my buddy might think of the same person as a mere 5. It’s all relative to our own perceptions and preferences.

We are all different. We have different likes and dislikes. One of the greatest strengths of humanity is in its diversity. Mix and match.

Do I worry about my looks? Yes. But I also have come to realize that although I may not be “hot” or even “lukewarm” to some, I could indeed be hot to someone else. After all I can look at a woman and think “wow,” or think “big deal.” They could no doubt be doing the same to me.

That’s the way it is. That’s life.

Of course it shouldn’t mean you let yourself go to heck. Or even get too perfectionist. Extremes are going to be limiting. Every era seems to have it’s “averages.” I suppose that “average” is what we should try for, but not obsess about. Unless of course your goal is to aim for one of those exremes. But that is up to you.

Character counts, yes. But there still is that visual part. That “halo” effect (if they look beautiful outside they must be beautiful inside…). And I suspect that someone who thinks of themselves as good looking will have a more positive attitude and outlook to match. Someone who thinks less of themselves, has “darker” thoughts and low self confidnece/esteem will turn to having a darker “inside” as well.

Just some quick thoughts at the moment, and my opinion.

Some nice words of wisdom there R. Oddly I’ve known many beautiful women to be excessively sensitive and judgmental about their own looks. If they got a zit they’d hide in fear of someone thinking they were butt-ugly. I thought they still looked hot–and I’m pretty particular–but all they could see were imperfections. So, we aren’t always good judges of our own appearance.

As for those that think they’re da sh!t having a positive outlook. It depends. That positive outlook doesn’t neccessarily translate to relationships whether social, professional or romantic. I know as I was married to a woman that thought she was hot–she was–but hurled all sorts of negative energy out her being.

IMO, are looks important for a man? The answer is a resounding ‘yes’. But does it matter as much as it is for a women?

Look at the chart below.

It is important but not as important as you might think. Of course, I’m only listing 5 factors here. There are many many more such as sense of humour, social status… etc.

So guys, maximize on your looks, if it can’t go up any further, just stop worring about it and work on other things. It’ll be more worth while.

With 3D animations, surround sounds with sub-bass and strobe lights I can bend your thinking… like they did in hollywood.

Wow. Interesting graph. Where did you find it? We are all curious.

I would agree with the men’s graph… in general… and it also depends on what time frame. Like beginning of meeting someone… an hour into it.. 7 hours later… attraction works differently at different stages.

Based on my experience with women the women’s graph looks about right though I would rate looks and confidence a little higher

Also the graphs are missing “personality” - that’s a big factor too!

I agree with what you said about beauty, but what we are talking about is the “beauty” of **men**.

As a guy on here said, women judge on value, men on the visual. That’s why we could make another thread addressing the concepts from a male’s perspective.

But man, I’ve never ranked a girl and then gotten 3.5 point difference, ever 😛 But who knows, maybe that dude was your complete opposite.

BTW, the “halo effect” is so overrated. It’s a term that has been used by people outside of the seduction community, and trust me, 99% of them are big NERDS who do NOT get laid, there is no chance. So their researches and whatnot are totally irrelevant and have no meaning to REAL LIFE.

Real life has proven them wrong, has put shame on all that is thought of the mighty “halo effect”. This is social conditioning at its best, men find 1.000.001 reasons and rationalizations for why they can’t get women when what only a few percent of mankind knows to be true by their own experience is that everyone, and I mean everyone (Don’t care if you are 4’2, 340 lbs. and have two faces) can be almost as good as anyone at attracting women.

I know of hundreds of buttugly and broke guys who pull hotter girls than many millionaires and GQ models. Take a RSD instructor named Jeffy(or Jlaix), I can recall him picking up a very attractive older woman that had a man that was extremely rich, she ditched him to go out with Jeffy, a totally broke dude with average looks, so hah!

So, that’s out of the way…? Or is it? You guys who are still hung up on this should know that the best, and I mean the BEST OF THE BEST at picking up women(Could pull better than Justin Timberlake in diamond embedded rocket boots) are lacking in everything you perceive as being of value to women. You guys just block that out because it would strip you of your convenient excuses for not taking action in this area.

I mean when guys start to believe this they **freak out**. Because of their excuses being swept away they have nothing to hold onto to keep their sanity in check. When they see that all their excuses are BS they’ll turn green because they know that hard work and consistency is the only thing keeping them away from achieving massive success with women and social dynamics in general, they will actually flip out and often times be damaged after it, or more commonly: Excited to know that the reason that is stopping them is “overcomeable”..

And what you said about handsome guys are more confident because of their looks, is partially nonsense to me because I’ve seen the most perfect looking guys pull from a club, night after night, a total of ZERO women. I read and read about guys (and see and talk to guys) that are handsome as XXXX but get little to no success. They’ll always tell you this : “I’m very handsome, and I get looks from women all day but I can’t talk to them”. It’s super common.

_That just means that no matter how guys look, their confidence varies, not entirely because of their looks, just because they were raised in different ways and have had different experiences._

IMO too, looks do matter, but it’s so little when it comes down to approaching that single woman. If you take 2 guys both equally as confident and one of them is a 7 and the other one is a 9, it will matter so little, it’s not even funny. If the 7 has one better thing to say, or has a slightly better voice than the 9, he dominates and the looks are left at the sideline. - Again, proven countless times, not theorized on forums.

This is just my experience and what I’ve seen countless of times happening.

Looks do matter, but if we’re talking about only looks, and not the occasional confidence that comes with them, they matter the least. It’s your social skills, your high beliefs about yourself and your congruency to that, matters.

Where in the name of God did you get that chart!?

Voice, eye contact and body language are all main sub-communications that are the most important.

Here is one of the best guys at picking up women in the world, an instructor from Mystery Method called Masters…

Masters? Oh please…

I would eat that up for breakfast and spit it back out in time for tea, and would have called it on all its lies, tricks and foibles within 10 minutes - tops.

You don’t have to believe me, but trust me, it is the case.

Been there, done that SO many times - and it’s BORING.

I would never ever tire of smashing him, ego and all repeatedly into the ground. He would be seething with rage after encountering my circle. We would probably pass him around the entire group of us - just for sport.

See? Women like sport too. Especially putting arrogant assspieces who think they are doing women a FAVOUR by gracing them with their presence, in their rightful place..

Don’t like that fact? Too bloody bad.

You want to play your stupid, nonsensical, ego-building games, but NOT have a female backlash?

Go and live on planet Zog then - and take about 14 of the guys from here with you.

The women here, crush people like you, and are also getting very VERY adept at doing so too, thanks to the mindless drivel like THIS we keep witnessing.

Go WAY back to where the women in these forums TELL YOU in this thread what we are looking for.

See that? Genuine.

- NOT VERY young asses who THINK they know better than a woman HERSELF what she wants.

- NOT misogynistic basket-cases who wouldn’t know what to do with a REAL woman if she slapped him in the face.

- NOT arrogant pieces of work who think it’s ALL about “The Game” (Where IS my bucket, by the way..?.)
GENUINE MEN!

There are a few of them here on these forums. They are damn thin on the ground mind you, but they are what the world should have SO many more of.

NOT men who play games.

Games are for kids.

Oh wait..

Yeah…that says it all

Ail 🙂

I just love women, if it wasn’t only for this 😃

They look so darn cute when they perform that speech right before I kiss them 😛

18 or 45, doesn’t matter, they are attracted for who I am, and what I am is a guy who has logical understanding of interactions with women, a guy that no woman would look at but then transformed himself so that women would get a chance to see his personality. That’s all this is, a way for us to convey our personality as fast as possible, some misuse this knowledge, get a few girls but as you said Ail, they will not get strong independent women like you because they lack integrity and genuineness in what they do. (Also known as “congruency”.)

So there you have it.. It’s just like anything out there, it’s misused and misunderstood by some and correctly used by others.

Maybe you look at where I’m coming from as a guy with cheesy pick up lines, stalking your group of friends when you guys are trying to have fun at a club/bar. Maybe you see me as that egoistical prick that hurt you, or your girlfriend.

I wouldn’t try to get you to fully understand unless you met me in person.

And by the way, my nick should’ve been “curious guy”, but I know a lot of guys see the word “PUA” and then recognize that they could ask me for help, just to contribute to this site and help guys out. Not a way to offend women and get them all hot and bothered because of something I write 😕
