> To be honest the reason I bought 5-htp is because I suspect I may have SAD. I get a little apathetic and loose motivation when the nights start getting darker earlier and also when I’m under flurorecent lights for long periods. These things seem to drain me of energy and I’d read somewhere that 5-htp may help so I thought why not give it a go because there seems to be no side effects from what I’ve read. So far I’ve only been taking them for a week and I’ve noticed my mood is ever so slightly brighter but that could be coincidence.
>
> I hadn’t heard that I should avoid alcohol, is that true? 5-htp is naturally occuring in turkey and cheese and people regulary eat these things with alcohol.
>
> I’m a little worried now because I thought this 5-htp was perfectly safe but now I really don’t want to turn into someone with premature ejeculation (something I read 5-htp caused the opposite off) and an intolerance to alcohol.

i am sorry, 5-htp is not a SSRI and so should not have any reactions with alcohol. this is what i get when i try to do research with a poker window popping up every 30 seconds ☹
it is completely safe, as far as i know. did you order it online or OTC ?

As would be my hubby’s case (a bit of ignorant selfishness)…but I’ve noticed a change in his “endurance” lately.

LOL! I’m glad to know that I wasn’t just imagining things. It seemed that whenever I sprayed TUTH onto his pillow (he doesn’t know about the pheros) he was more intense and “focused” but when I also spray MEO-EST, he lasts longer and asks questions like if I’m enjoying it or does that feel good, etc. The TUTH really gets me going, the MEO-EST seems to make him want to please more. So, yeah, I think it’s a learned behavior as far as hubby is concerned. Ha! You’d think that after 11 years of marriage, that we’d have this stuff figured out by now!:o

The stuff in turkey is tryptophane. The body converts tryptophane to 5-HTP and 5-HTP to serotonin. 5-HTP is a serotonon precursor. It raises serotonon levels. If you take too much you can get “serotonon syndrome” which is what happens when you od on serotonin. It is not generally dangerous. You just feel so miserable you wish you were dead for a couple of hours and then you are okay. But if you can od on it, it is obvious that 5-HTP is quite effective at raising serotonin levels. That doesn’t necessarily mean that higher serotonon levels is what you want. Theoretically, SSRIs like prozac also raise serotonon levels, but in actually it may be something else entirely. When 5-HTP first became available over-the-counter there were alarming stories – often from respected experts – that it might result in all kinds of dangers including sudden death. These dangers seem to have never manifested. Ward Dean believes that 5-HTP can be much more effective against depression when taken with very small amounts of St. John’s Wort.

I find 5-HTP works better on an empty stomach. I had a co-worker who found 5HTP relieved her migranes. I’ve never thought much about 5-HTP and alcohol, but it couldn’t be too dangerous or I would have killed myself already.

I have noticed a couple of times recently that when I add TUTH to a mix that already includes IH and MEO-EST, that I do last even longer than I want to. Could be coincidence, but you’re making me wonder…

When I spoke of learned behavior I was talking about learning to appropriately contract the PCG muscle (among other things) to delay ejaculation. The theory is that a man can have an orgasm without ejaculating. And thereby without losing his erection. I don’t know that “ignorant selfishness” is the phrase that applies. Most men (including most doctors and psychotherapists) don’t have a clue that this is possible. Part of the technique involves mentally directing your chi energy, so whether it works or not, Western scientists don’t want to hear about it. It took me two years of practising every day to get this skill down. And even after you’ve got it, it takes a lot of concentration, motivation and will power. It has nothing to do with calculating baseball batting averages. It is possible, and it does work.

Me too…I guess I’ll have to keep experimenting!😃

I guess I was just talking about the whole thing in general. He’s just now seeming to care whether or not I’m getting anything out of it 😮 OR maybe I’m just being more demanding lately!

Sorry…TMI, for sure!!!:o

well i am very open in using meds and drugs wich probebly most of you arent, solving the problem is easy, just take an opiate, amphetamine, SSRI, tramadol or whatever, but i know a load about drugs and i would understand most of you are against taking meds or so, i dont know but i’m into the “better living trough chemicals” thing

those things are often considered to be “unhealthy” but i find that term to be subjective, if something doesnt cause any disease or make you live shorter why would i call it unhealthy, therefor i enhance my life with many “chemicals” if you want to know more just pm me for my MSN or something, i’ve been studieng all this stuff for a long time now 🙂

Well, I don’t think this would work for hubby who’s had a drinking problem in the past (an still does, to some degree) so I think adding another potentially addictive substance would be the wisest choice.

Hey, each to his own, I guess!

This thread begs the question, that when I take a mild muscle relaxant, I play games much better, but then I haven’t taken one and tried to make whoopee,

then taking an SSRI wich arent addicting as needed may be the best choice

no natural treatment of any of that kind would work

I fell asleep soon enough after, why should I have to worry about falling asleep during… 😃

Actually it was a few years ago I was on muscle relaxants, not something I would want to do again. talk about feeling wiped out.

I’m wearing [Instant Honesty](https://a314.com/product/instant-honesty/) so probs shouldn’t say this but I’m considering buying a fleshlight for the sole purpose of making me last longer/ better in bed. Do you think it would work? I’m really prepared to put in the extra work if it makes me a better lover. 🙂

Ok…call me naive, but I had to google fleshlight…😮 :o 😮

So how would that help you? More practice??? Gosh, that’d be a LOT of extra “work” on your part!😃 🙄

haha it is only recently I found out about them as well. I wish I’d known about them a few years ago when I REALLY needed one lol :o . I don’t know if it would make me any better but apparantly reading reviews there suposed to feel very close to the real thing so I guess it would improve technique and the ability to control how long you last. For sure it would be a LOT of extra work but It’s honestly not just self indulgence. 🙂
