MX274 Work Week Testing Series

Day One - Normal self, felt a bit peppier after application. Work went smoothly with the few coworkers around me. Smell lasted quite a while, but the grapfruit is most dominant. I smelled it the next morning while blow drying my hair.

Day Two - Major major discussions, for which I was caught NOT wearing it! Grr!!

Day Three - Major conversation with the Boss; decided to move me to a new project area, new office and new responsibilities. Boss started the meeting feeling “disconnected” form me, but at the end, we were happy and back in our groove. I am trying to wear this stuff to _decrease_ my intimidation factor at work. I have long suspected that she doesn’t like me chiefly due to feeling threatened or intimidated by me. Several comments she made in the meeting seemed to indicate she wants much more control over my schedule. However, the pheros seemed to accentuate my message of subordination to her. She left the meeting feeling like she had transmitted her message and it was received loud and clear; she then asked if there were things she could change to better accommodate me - we had a lengthy discussion on work style and better synergy together. Overall, I think the pheros helped to transmit my message to her, as well as help her feel more appreciative and connected to me.

Day Four: Noticed a pattern of increased interaction and friendliness/willingness to talk from people i am _already_ close to. Friends become more friendly. No discernible effect on the Boss Lady.

Day Five: Wearing MX274 w/no cover, one male coworker walked by, saying he smelled sweet florals (wtf?) and felt soothed by my presence. It was slightly tongue in cheek. We designed and test new methods to inflict bodily harm on each other daily. Still no discernible effect on Boss Lady.

Observations:
After spraying, I feel a bit more grounded and connected. No matter what stress I had before, I feel like it will all work out. I feel more confident in the outcome of the day. I feel more upbeat, a sense of “things working out,” a synergy of activity and intentions.

Noticed I was moderately motivated and focused on _work_ activities after spraying.

Conclusions:
While I might _feel_ or _think_ that “it will all work out” clearly the Boss Lady does not. I have exposed her to it every other day now for two weeks and she has not changed any behavior pattern towards me _at all._ We had one _heavy_ work discussion, where we were in close proximity for aprox 30 mins. The meeting ended on a much better note than it began, and she made _slight_ overtures to extend a working relationship back to me. However, nothing substantial or productive has happened since.

This mix seems to be a dud for my target. It is not calming her, or increasing her empathy and teamwork vibes towards me. It is not inspiring teamwork or partnerships, nor is it allowing her to view me in a capable or partnership light.

With my co-workers, who are already socially friendly and like me, it has inspired increased friendliness, communication, and a desire to be around me.

NOT one to continue employing at work!! ☹

That will get my ass fired.

Our problem is that I am perceived as WAY too domineering. No matter how subservient I am to her directly, the rest of the office staff is totally subservient to ME. We have two bipolar spheres at the office - one revolves around my world and the other around hers.

She is highly, highly threatened by me.

There is NO WAY that I can “take her job.” i wouldn’t ever want it, I have no designs on it, nothing - however, she acts in a classic, classic threatened, protective, guarded manner.

I come across as _very_ commanding and authoritative. Many times, my role is to come in and shake things up. When I work on a team, I need to draw the team together towards a common goal. I’ve got the rest of the staff under me on board with my “team.”

Her though… It’s a Dynamic Personality Disagreement. And since I am the underling… I need to take steps to appease her personality… for the moment. 😉

I dunno, sounds like the desired effect with everyone except the target. She just can’t get past feeling threatened by you.

Both meetings with prolonged close range contact seem to have ended well. (I’m sure that was almost all your sweet charming self)

Could MX274 be the basis of a combo with a trust (not trust/respect) component added?

OoohYahhh

What I took away from the testing series was that with people who _already like you,_ it works great. Friendliness and sociableness abounds. Your _friends_ want to connect with you.
She does not like me too much, no. 😉 It didn’t seem to work on her.
I am _not_ trying to make her a _friend._ That will not work. I want to work better with her - I want our working environment to be harmonious and much more partnering.

And yes, I do believe that in our meetings, my interpersonal behaviors steered that more than the pheros. I was very, very subservient to her. If she feels threatened by me, then I do not want to give her any body language that reinforces that.

Our roles are supposed to be connected - we are supposed to be a synergistic team. 🙄 See how well it’s working? I’m acting meek and tongue tied around her, trying not to step on her toes, while unspokenly guiding and commanding the rest of the office staff and leading the entire tribe!

EST would work great around my _male_ coworkers, but for HER, it would be meaningless, according to the prevailing research.

I will try wearing it at the office eventually, but I am obsessed with trying to find a mix to assist with Boss Lady. 🙄

Ultimately it is not the domineering, authoritative aspect that is the problem. It’s not that you might take her job. The real problem is superior leadership skills. Whether that leadership is by charisma, or imperative command, or by egalitarian cooperation, the underlying threat comes superior leadership skills. The fear is that if you were in direct opposition to any policies implemented by those of superior rank, that would engender widespread opposition to those policies by those who follow your leadership. No matter whether you were trying to lead them to it or not.

The most easily threatened are those who manage by imperative command, the weakest form of leadership.

One possibility would be to make yourself an ally to her. Not with her, but to her. Somehow make her comfortable that your leadership skills are being put to her service.

I’ve was in that position years ago when American manufacturing was beginning to emerge from the dark times of managment by imperative command. My management style was very much one of egalitarian cooperation based on trust and respect. Given in massive quantities before there was any positive reaction from a heavily conditioned, hardened workforce. When they did finally come around the results were extraordinary.

There was an engineering director and a vice president (fortunately not in my direct line of command) who should have been named Fear and Loathing. They did everything they could to sabatoge me and my crew and ultimately the whole manufacturing section. My manager and the manufacturing director were behind me but eventually the pressure got pretty heavy and innocent people were starting to get hurt. The other supervisors were beginning to catch on to my methods and my crew was spreading out onto other shifts. When my manager found a good successor, I gladly moved to a design position in the manufacturing engineering section where I could support my people by the practice of parry and riposte in higher level corporate politics. Several years later I left to live the hippy life in the hills outside Austin.

Since then (with a few relapses) I have sucessfully managed to avoid any and all positions of leadership. I’m following the path less travelled, to be an alpha human without being a leader.

As a result my advice on this might be a little rusty. Without some overarching reason to stay (personal loyalties, some bizzare love of the work that you couldn’t get in another section) the best choice would be to reposition yourself in another area of the organization. Barring that, you’ve got to sell yourself to the boss as her greatest asset. You’d have to do that anywhere you went, but it seems like a slower, more fragile process where you’re at.

Yahtahey… just pitchin’ a few pennies.

You’ve hit the nail on the head there, actually.

The whole thing boils down to dynamic leadership and personality differences.

She views competent subordinates as an intrinsic threat to her environment and work. She must have complete and total control over them at all times, and be entirely in command of their working environments and procedures. She cannot and will not let them work on their own, or let them “off the leash.” They must report every action and task to her at all times. She must direct their every movement in any project.

I view competent subordinates as a blessing and as a gift. I like to empower them with tools and tasks that help them to shine and grow. What can I give them, as a superior, to assist them in their tasks? How can I assist their missions? My happiest times are when I have a competent team underneath me, and I can hand a project off, and _know_ that it is/will be done, to perfection, as soon as I’ve given it away.

Drastically, drastically different philosophies. We are at loggerheads.

I unfortunately cannot at the moment ally myself with her. She has closed that door - quite firmly.

There is not much personal loyalty here. I am currently looking for a new contract and organization.
