Has anybody else on here heard about the claimed aphrodesiac effects of vanilla essential oil?

Yes, I’ve heard about it many years ago from my brother. He swore by it.

I can’t say if it’s true or not, because I’ve also heard that about patchouli oil

Vanilla oil is supposed to evoke the feeling of Happiness and comfort.

Ylang Ylang, Sandlewood and Cardamom are supposed to evoke feelings of Lust. There are some others but the scents would be to girly for men to wear.

But the Patchouli _must_ be applied with a light hand, and be very subtle. Not the hippie bathed in dose.

I think I read somewhere that the scent of vanilla increases penile blood flow by 40%. I’m not sure how the scent affects women. I think a lot of women think vanilla smells good 🙂

I heard that you have to get real Vanilla Oil Extract and not simply Vanilla-scented products. Vanilla Oil is kinda expensive. Most of the cheaper aromatherapy candles use fake Vanilla scent. A few people on this other forum I post on swear by it.

True most aromatherapy products do use artificial Vanilla scent in there products.
What your probably looking for is vanilla absolute which is 100% EO and is very expensive.
Its runs about $100 to $125 an ounce but its not wise to use it straight because it causes rashes in most people which explains why it increases blood flow. My local health food store sells it by the dram and its around $25.

I buy mine blended 50/50 with a carrier oil like grape seed or Jojoba which is much more cost effective. If you get a chance to try it out let us know.

[Essential oils](http://www.bojensen.net/EssentialOilsEng/EssentialOils30/EssentialOils30.htm#Vanilla)

You can get whole aged vanilla beans. Look for ones that are a little gummy, with white fuzz – pure vanilla crystals, not mould.

Put the bean into alcohol and wait; shake the container once a week or so. Will be ready at about the time the fruitcake you give to a family member is returned, freshly wrapped, the following year.

Vanilla essential oil is indeed a comforting, homey aphrodisiac. Great to enhance trust.

I believe the allergy many experience (including myself) is due more to particular solvents used to process it than the oil itself. Some vanilla EO’s are terrible on me, but others are absolutely gentle. You must test the vanilla first. Oshadi’s vanilla is one I would recommend.

Vanilla EO is very expensive indeed. In a pinch it’s possible to use top of the line stuff you cook with, if it’s made with pure Bourbon vanilla. It’s the same stuff, only diluted. Of course, this works only for some applications.

Most things that are “vanilla” scented contain vanillin, or one of a few other chemicals, rather than vanilla EO.

Yes, patchoili is also an aphrodisiac.

And homey baked goods like chocolate chip cookies.

Which is why I use chocolate cookie scent on such mones as [Instant Honesty](https://a314.com/product/instant-honesty/). It ALL helps.

And cinnamon is fab, too. Also a baked goods scent. 😃

Good Dr.

Can you suggest a good coffee essential oil supplier? Oshadi? I’m trying to create a scent I’d call “Starbucks employee” Vanilla would definitely figure heavily in the mix.

Cheers,

Coffee roasters regularly add a variety of coffee EOs to their coffee, and you could contact one to ask to buy some of the EOs. I have done that. Otherwise Google it.

Vanilla is one molecule in difference from a particular [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/), and as such is supposed to have very similar effects of said pheromone. I was just hoping to ask about this because I foroget which pheromone that is.

However, it is of my personal (and logical or scientific) opinion that the “one molecule away” thing does not work very well. Vanilla is one molecule away from a pheromone which is used as part of the evidence of the effects vanilla has (I couldn’t find the article I originally saw), and margarine is one molecule away from plastic which is used as evidence of it’s unhealthiness. However, oxygen (O\<subscript\>2\</subscript\>) is also one molecule away from carbon monoxide. One of the first lessons we are taught is indtroductory high school chemistry is that combination of similar molecular structure will not nessecerily have attributes in common, because they are connecting and the molecular level to turn visibly (or in our case, sensorly) into something quite different. Therefore personally I am not a subscriber to the “one molecule away” theory.
However in margarine the molecular structure is given as evidence of an already-known fact, and not the other way around. I am not completely certain if this is the case with vanilla but the wording of the articule I read made it seem that way.

As for scent, the smell of vanilla is supposed to increase penile bloodflow as evidenced the article I recently posted in the topic “Vanilla Erections!,” and to that end artificial scents would be fine.

I was actually just reading up on what scents are aphrodisiacs. Vanilla was one of them, but I have mostly read that Cinnamon is the best. I’m off to the health food store tomorrow to see what they have. I’ve got a whole list of aphrodisiac scents! Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Cardamom, Clary Sage, Cinnamon, Patchouli, Jasmine, Mastic, [Neroli](https://a314.com/product-category/scented/androtics-neroli/), Clove, Rose, Black Pepper, Vanilla, Lavender. Don’t know how many of these work. I read that a man is attracted to smells that remind them of their mother’s baking, and scents that relax them. So I think I’ll try Cinnamon with some Lavender. I also read that Ylang-Ylang with a touch or orange works well too.

Every guy I know SWEARS that vanilla is his fave scent on women.

However, in experiments, the food scent that caused the most erections was.. pumpkin pie!😮

Nope. Pumpkin pie biscuits with mango salsa! I can feel my blood flow increasing, just thinking about it!

I put some mexican vanilla extract called Xilkan behind my ears and on my wrists one day, and my husband was totally tured on!!! I am almost out of Xilkan-my grandma bought it for me on her last cruise. Does anyone know where I can get some more? I’ve tried all the Mexican stores around here but not one carries it.
Anyway, I would have to agree…vanilla is the way to go. I just bought some vanilla absolute online. You’re supposed to mix it with a carrier oil such as canola oil, 2-3 drops of vanilla absolute to 100 drops of carrier oil. Gonna do that and see what happens!!

Interesting discussion about vanilla. In classic perfumery vanilla has been a signature base for almost 100 years. Guerlain have built an empire on vanilla, starting with Shalimar. It must be popular for a reason… 🙂

For me though, pure vanilla, or one of the new “gourmand” vanilla scents are too foody for a perfume. Pumpkin pie is “Mom” for me, not sex.

Then again its all about personal preference.
