This came out originally in 1957 and there are evidently two versions available today. There is one bottle I understand as a 2009 variation labeled “Le Vetiver”. That is not what I have here. The one I have came in a white box and is in a rather square bottle with a rectangular clear plastic “crystal” cap. I understand this one to be a 2006 reformulation. This is the first Vetiver I have tried (other than having it as an essential oil) and cannot comment on any others.

This opens up citrus with a nice mix of Lemongrass and Bergamot and is followed closely with nutmeg with a little bit of Lavender with Vetiver in the heart. Vetiver stays there till the end where it is dominant and lightly modified with hints of Cedar and Amber.

Vetiver is a grass that grows in the topics and its unique note often is perceived as earthy, damp woody, smokey or like fresh cut dark tobacco. One of my favorites.

If you really like the Vetiver note, liberally soak yourself with this. The upper notes do not last long (about an hour on me) but the Vetiver is tenacious and will last up to 10 hours. Unfortunately the sillage is rather poor.

I would say that this has additional potential for mixing or layering the Vetiver note into another fragrance that could use it.

I like vetiver and use it in some blends I make. I might have to go to Macy’s and get a sample 🙂. Keep posting, because I am sure this information is being well received.
