I just watched a segment on the WB news tonight on dating etiquette called something like: “Have the rules of dating changed and you’ve been left behind”, and it just confirmed so much of what’s been talked about so much here in the forum, and specifically in Data4’s [Ladies, may I ask for your advice?](https://pheromonetalk.com/t/ladies-may-i-ask-for-your-advice/16189) thread.

They interviewed numerous men and women on dating etiquette and men and womens views on acceptable ways to meet, ask out, date and breakup with the opposite sex, and the differences in what men deemed acceptable versus what was acceptable to the ladies was almost unbelievable, and really makes me wonder how anybody ever actually ends up getting together.

One of the questions the news reporter asked of numerous men was how they asked women out. Many of the guys said that they usually asked the girl out in a text message and that if the girl rejected them in a text it didn’t hurt their egos as much as being rejected over the phone. ALL of the ladies said that if a guy asked them out by text message they would probably reject them, as it showed that they weren’t confident enough to really ask them out.

They asked about the approaches the guys used to meet women, and again the answers given by the guys didn’t begin to meet the expectations of the answers given by the ladies. Many of the guys thought that offering to buy a girl a drink was the best opener. And again all the girls said that if a guy walked up and offered to buy them a drink they would see it as the guy thinking he could buy her attention and would be an immediate turn off.

It was clear that they either didn’t interview any alpha men and only interviewed alpha women, or they didn’t bother to include those responses from alpha men and beta women in the segment, but the final impression was that men and women had drifted so far apart that the idea of meeting and dating someone was all but hopeless.

Personally the idea of asking somebody out in a text message is WAY to wimpy, and I’d sooner cut off my balls and hand them to a girl that I wanted to meet, than to walk up and ask if I could buy her a drink.

Looks like men may not really be from Mars and women from Venus, but more like from different galaxies!

and yet all a woman has to do is walk up to a man, fondle his “man junk” and say “you’ll do”

Now that doesn’t work with every guy but a female friend of mine said it would work 90% of the time in a bar.

Text is wimpy as hell, but there is nothing wrong with a drink unless you do it with a certain attitude.

There was a girl in my student association who did that. She would be in great pain if she heard what those guys she did it to said about her.

Except for the fact that it immediately sets the tone that you feel you need to buy her a drink for her to even want to talk to you, and puts her in control. No thanks!

Well, I don’t personally have that impression if a guy wants to buy me a drink when we are in a bar or cafe. I just think it is thoughful; we have been bantering a bit, he notices my glass is empty or wants to get something for himself, I appreciate the offer.

But maybe women think differently in your area.

No that’s fine if you’ve already been talking to each other.

I said that the guys interviewed by the reporter felt a good way to MEET a girl was to walk up to them and offer to buy them a drink.
