# What does musk do? I have perfumes with musk and heard it has some magic

I have some perfumes with musk and I heard musk has some magic.. What does musk do?? 😕😕

Now all musk is synthetic… maybe it has some level of [pheromone](https://pheromonelabs.com/) like effect although that is doubtful… mostly it smells attractive, sort of a warm soft aroma, they put it in fabric softener to make the clothes seem “cuddlier”

Musk was originally harvested from the Musk Deer. This was discovered a long time ago, I think in the 1800’s. The deer produced this smell from a gland on it’s body, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they were [pheromones](https://a314.com/shop/) of some kind. Anyway people loved the smell so traders started hunting the deer and making cologne out of it.  
Now this was back in the 1800’s so you have to consider how much less common cologne and perfume were. Today every 10-year old boy at least has a bottle of axe. Back then not everybody was taking daily showers. So a pheromone cologne would be a POWERFUL tool to have.  
Nowadays musk is synthesized so it can be produced in higher qualities without driving the animal to extinction.
