A discussion on the women’s board (about how atypical [pheromone](https://a314.com/shop/) forum members might be) led to talk of the Myers-Briggs personality test. Abbreviated versions of this type of test can be taken quickly and for free on the various websites. Here are a couple:

[Personality test based on Jung - Myers-Briggs typology](http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes1.htm)

[Temperament Sorter registration. AdvisorTeam](http://www.advisorteam.com/temperament_sorter/register.asp?partid=1)

and here is a really short one:

[BLOGinality: weblogger personality types - the personality test](http://bloginality.love-productions.com/index2.php)

Once you have your results, you may want to read further about your type here:

[Keirsey Temperament Website](http://www.keirsey.com/)

[TypeLogic: Type-Related Links](http://typelogic.com/typelinks.shtml#tests)

I always used to be an INFP but today I seem to be an INTJ.

Recent life experiences and activities can make your test come out differently at different times, and people also tend to evolve somewhat as they age, sometimes balancing out so their scores are not as extreme as they once were.

So … what type are you?

When I tested as a sophomore in high school I ended up being an XNFP… an Introvert AND extrovert.

Extrovert? Who, _me??_ 🙄

Let’s take this sucker again and see what I get…

I’m a Champion Idealist (ENFP)… huh, never really concsiously thought of myself that way, but by the description, it’s pretty accurate.

I find it interesting that for being so extroverted with my friends, I’m still very shy around strangers.

Thanks for the links, Carrie! I was looking on the internet for ones I had taken earlier, but you did the job already!

My score is fairly consistenly INTP though sometimes INTx and sometimes xNTP.

My N score is pretty much ‘off the chart’, T consistently but not overwhemingly stronger than F.

* * *

One afternoon, after a long and boisterous discussion of MBTI with an academic colleague (we were adjunct faculty for an Executive MBA school), my good friend was arguing vehemently that I was "P"erceiving and not "J"udging, and that my INTx score could only be a fluke. We were in downtown Lake Forest, Illinois, a posh suburb of Chicago, and as I stood on the busy sidewalk, she pulled away in her van:

– So absorbed in this argument that she yelled out the window, triumphant, in clear ringing tones, _ **“See! That comment is a perfect example! Your P-ness is showing!”** _

More than a few heads turned at that point. 😃

hey toil, I think that means you have a 1% PREFERENCE for thinking, as in 50.5% thinking, 49.5% feeling. something like that, anyway. It’s just an expression of how strong your _preference_ is for thinking, not how strong your thinking is…

I think believing the whole world is a show is a highly spiritual stance! right on.

I know, I just thought I was always a thinker. The intuitive side is very true though, and I realy like the entp explenation. It fits so well.

Apparently im an eNFj, which only 2 - 3% of the population are 😃

ENFJs are the benevolent ‘pedagogues’ of humanity. They have tremendous charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand schemes. Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship. But it’s usually not meant as manipulation – ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are.
ENFJs are global learners. They see the big picture. The ENFJs focus is expansive. Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects simultaneously. Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability.
ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and decisiveness. But they don’t resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance. ENFJs are organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs. Their offices may or may not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than those of their NFP counterparts.
ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general), they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of others. They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people. ENFJs often take on more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

Carrie, I saw your original comments on M-B and your ex, who could never decide what to answer – that’s me! I HATE forced-choice inventories.

No matter how many times I take it, I get: I personally, but often E at work; _profoundly_ N personally, but often S at work; flip-flop between T/F pretty evenly; very P personally, but usually J at work – 'cuz that’s the kind of work I do.

I don’t seem to have any trouble moving between ESTJ-mode in a work setting and INT/FP as my general orientation to life, the universe and everything. M-B seems to measure behaviors pretty well. Since the test questions are ALL about behaviors, that makes sense. I’d hesitate to say I “AM” INTP or whatever.

Anybody familiar with the Enneagram? I could dig up a link or two for info if people are interested in talking Enneagram Types …

today I’m an INTJ, a “Mastermind Rationalist” and less than 1% of the population 😃

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition, it is the contingency planning or entailment organizing role that reaches the highest development in Masterminds. Entailing or contingency planning is not an informative activity, rather it is a directive one in which the planner tells others what to do and in what order to do it. As the organizing capabilities the Masterminds increase so does their inclination to take charge of whatever is going on.

It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other [Rationals](http://keirsey.com/personality/nt.html), while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or “entailers.”

Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind’s well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined.

In their drive for efficient action, Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy.

A full description of the Mastermind and [Rational](http://keirsey.com/personality/nt.html) is in [People Patterns](http://keirsey.com/pp.html) or [Please Understand Me II](http://keirsey.com/pumII.html)
[General Ulysses S. Grant](http://keirsey.com/grant.html) is an example of Mastermind Rational

Hi Xenie, I love this personality type stuff, too. It does sound like you are naturally more of an INT(or F)P

I think in terms of one’s _true_ type, one should try taking the test answering only in terms of your non-work life preferences. All of us make accommodations to the demands of our worklives and in the process grow into some underdeveloped aspects of ourselves, but for the deepest depiction of your type, I’d go with what’s true for you when you are _not_ at work.

A simple question for the I/E continuum, for example, would be … when you are stressed, weary, and need to renew yourself, do you like solitude or company? (being around fewer people, or more people?) which one best recharges your psychic batteries?

For the P/J continuum, do you feel more comfortable if you plan most of your weekend activities, or if you wait and see/let things happen spontaneously?
