Well, you know what they say, knowledge is power.

I’m about halfway through The Game - Neil Strauss, when he recommends a couple of books to Courtney Love by Robert Greene. Took a trip today down to the local library - As silly as the whole notion seems, there were at least two 8/10’s on the dichter scale there haha so perhaps it holds some promise for the future…

Anyway, picked myself up The 48 Laws of Power - Robert Greene. I have to say it’s been presented in the most readable fashion, historical example of how 1 law is broken and the consequences, and an example of it being followed and the ensuing effects. Not a great description? I agree! But I’d recommend this book.

So how about yourself, what have you been reading lately?

_Dramatic Success! - Theatre Techniques to Transform and Inspire Your Working Life_ by Andrew Leigh and Michael Maynard

Also, I just finished _The Relationship Cure_ by John Gottman. I’d really recommend that for just about anyone. It is about all our attempts to connect with one another: how to spot when someone is making a bid to connect with you and how to respond. You’d think it would be common sense, but it really isn’t.

Another amazing book is _Nonviolent Communication_ by Marshall Rosenberg.

Good one… I’m re-reading Stumbling On Happiness… the fascinating idea Gilbert presents is the brain is, to a far greatrer extent than we knew, constantly re-writing memory and “reality”… and we too often assume we know what will make us happy or what the future will look like… after reading the book (carefully, with review) I’ve become a LOT more careful with my mental habits, often when I make a quick assumption about something _I will now slow myself down and request that my brain offer up at least one other possible interpretation_… and I thing why didn’t I think of that as a possible explanation before ?, and my brain says back, well, you never asked… 😉

I’m reading the Divine Comedies -Dante Alighieri. I just finished the Inferno. I’m moving on to The Purgatorio. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. The writing may be outdated compared to todays styles. The story is just epic in every aspect.

Sure. It’s about using theater techniques to get ahead at work. It covers star quality for individual performance, ensemble techniques to improve teamwork, and the role of the director when it comes to managing the team. I really like the overall tone of the work, aspirational and positive, with practical exercises that really get you thinking about your purpose and the strengths you bring to your work life.

Also, I didn’t mention the fiction I’m reading. _Fruitful Bodies_, a mystery by Morag Joss. I prefer old PD James and Martha Grimes novels to help me fall asleep, but this Morag lady is pretty good–at least as a stopgap while I’m waiting for Grimes’ latest to come out in paperback.

Well, I’ve been working on the Epic of Aino (i.e. translations and helping with deciphering mythologies and cuniforms depicted on the tablets), the Encyclopedia of Atlantis, and I just finished Jesus the Last Pharoah.

So far my favorite all time book still is The Silmarillion. It’s a shame that my nerd beams are strong enough to admit that I speak two forms of Elvish, one form of the Black speech, and some Westron (the common tongue pioneered by the Dunedain).

Sincerely,
Dr. PJ
