Illness could cause your own “scent” to change (I know my armpits can reek when I’m feeling bad) that may affect how someone reacts to you, including whatever pheromones you may be putting out and/or wearing. (It could be nature’s way of saying “stay away I’m sick” to others.)

There is a debate about the VNO as a receptor in the nose for pheromones, but in any case I think you still have to get the molecules into the nose/sinus area to be effective (? not sure if “mouth breathing” gets them anywhere useful). And I know from some sinus colds I’ve had my nose can be _completely_ stopped up. Solid. I would think without airflow into nasal passages pheromones may not work very well if at all.

Just my opinion.
