CWC: did anyone see Bermuda play in the cricket world cup?

Did anyone see Bermuda play in the cricket world cup? If so what were your thoughts? Would like to know.

I think the participation of countries like Bermuda and Canada and Holland and Scotland; with no offense intended; dilutes historical ODI records. To have the record for the fatest ODI fity broken twice in one week (by Boucher and now by McCullum) is a bit much. And those records once meant something. Whats more is that unlike in the Champion’s League football for example, there is little disadvantage in a side like England losing to New Zealand, and presumably (barring any slip ups against Kenya) finishing second in that group. They’re still move through to the Super 8; just like New Zealand. I think they should move back to a more compact tournament with a qualifying tournament amonst the non-Test playing nations from which say a further two teams (Ireland and one other I’d assume) could join the main tournament. I assume the ICC don’t want this because they want more money from more games but judging from the attendances at some of these pool games (pultry television money aside for these below-par games) I can’t see that that has worked out to well for them.

Australia were 1/250 to beat Scotland; that’s barely a sporting contest.

Only saw bits of Bermuda in the India game and even the Indians who have been out of form of late looked in top nick.

Having seen alot of domestic cricket in bermuda you see potential. If only they could play full time they could do something. The country needs to rid themselves of thier amateur mentality of how they run their sports programs. They should find a way to showcase the minnows of cricket another way. But like I said some of these guys spend more time delivering mail and sitting in an office than in the nets. That method might produce the one off star who thrives off pure talent but a consistent team it will never make.

Btw, Bermy takes on Bangladesh next. One thing I can say about Bermuda is that for a island with a population with only 70,000 they have made their mark on the world from time to time. Even though I have love for them thats got to be one of the most unanticipated matches in world cup history. Most people don’t even know where either of these countries are and even less can name one player on either team. I can only because I have spent alot of time in one of them

Sort of a shame the the Pakistani coach had to go and get himself killed.:open_mouth:

I just hope that it gets sorted out. The perpetrator needs to be caught fast and judiciously punished.

Another west indies batting collapse. What a letdown.

Bermuda while being a very outclassed minnow will be a cricketing nation to keep tabs on. Cricket is the national sport and they have a good number of young players in the squad, some teenagers getting world cup experience and barring administrative errors they will be greatly improved in the near future.
There is a limitation to a country that small with limited resources but if they can maximise the talent pool they can make noise here and there

That’s where the Australians are in a class of their own. Their batting line-up is so long - as is South Africa’s and New Zealand’s - but they have 5 to 7 guys capable of scoring 140-plus where South Africa have 3-4 and New Zealand 2-3 (with Ross Taylor being fit). Their top batsmen are also very consistent.

Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the semi’s for me.

Got to give Brian Lara some credit though for continuing to be productive with no support basicly from team or administration. Now even country seems to be jumpin off the windies ship somewhat

Brian Lara is a great player; up there with the five or six greatest batsmen of all-time IMHO.
