I’m going to Florida soon, for a short holiday. Other than building sand castles on the beach, what are fun things to do in the US? I like food, wandering about, dance, architecture, shopping and all sorts of fun thing when on holiday. I also like watching the local people, getting to know the culture a bit.
Agree, what part. South, you have the Neverglades and Key West. North, you have Disney World and some hills (south Florida is flat). I lived in the Miami/Homestead area for a number of years.
I’m going to be pretty short on time , so not much travelling or going to dangerous men’s houses, hehe. I could do with some general info, like what are the specialities in terms of food, what sort of clothes people wear there (No winter right, so I bring my summer dresses?) what to look for etc.
I’ll be in the south I think, the exact location I could say in PM but not public.
Since you say south, I’ll go with Miami/Fort Lauderdale, (you can PM me if I’m too far off, say Tampa). For food, think sea food and Cuban, also Google “South Beach Diet”. Then there is just “plain old American”. You know hamburgers, hot dogs, pizzas etc. As far as weather, it was 79F (21C) there yesterday, but when I was there I could remember winter days where the temperature didn’t get above 55F (12.7C) bring a jacket for the evenings, I also remember Christmas Eves where it was 89F (31.6C) and 98% humidity.
and overweight 40+ year-old Men on the beach wearing a thong aren’t dangerous, you might have to wash your eyes out with Bleach
Key West area, there are a few good restaurants and bars, Mom found “My Blue Heaven” by talking to the guy at the scooter rental store.
Miami/Fort lauderdale area has some cool art deco styled buildings, and many other things you do not see elsewhere in the world. (like said beach scene)
hope you have a fun trip!
I can understand the fear, but remember if you mention a city, and not a direct hotel, date or time, it is not like there aren’t already hundreds of thousands of people entering and leaving those cites of millions of people daily, not like we would all show up and phero the place up to mess with you…
I am pretty sure you would not be that easy to pick out, unless you travel like a superstar with a full following of people and servants… (for all I know you might)
I’ll be in the Fort Lauderdale area and will be in FL itself for a day. The art deco buildings sound right up my alley!
I’ve had a pic up in the picture thread and still have it in my album here; people recognize me when I met them months ago in a different country, hence my concern.
If I was to meet up with people from this forum I actually would not mind sniffing a few classics to see what they do to me.
Forgot to mention, if you get a chance get down to Miami (it’s close) and hang out at Haulover Beach. Might seem somewhat familiar to someone from the EU.
