England has a new president

Yep you read right, England has a new President, called barack obama, and i wasn’t allowed to vote!!!

This is an outrage. So much for freedom and democracy and historical hu ha. I, as a british citizen was not allowed to vote for the new president.

Yep i would have voted for Barack, and congratulations to him and the USA.

I dont want to live in the USA, i want to live in England with the Queen.

it is time for us the British public to throw out the lap dog labour party comedians and vote in a Bull dog nationalist.

Well done America that was a vote for common sense. Good luck to you guys.

I might just drop out of school and take YOUR money. Free ride!

We’ll be happy to show our cousins across the pond again how to have a proper “Tea Party” but instead of throwing crates of tea overboard it could be your “lap dog labour party comedians” …

Can any one see the Racial irony,

You got a redneck white man who messed up the US and global economy,
started 2 wars, annoyed every country in the world, destroys the enviroement,

Now you got a black man to clean up the mess,

and i thought those days were over…

The color of his skin has nothing to do with whats in his heart and mind.

I think this shows that people are finally realizing where a persons worth comes from and its a big step forward for all of the world.

You may find it ironic but I find it enlightning. While I dont really care for bush much and I stay out of political talk I have always applied the brother rule to him or any president. I can kick his ass cause he is my brother (My President) but if anyone else comes down on him I am gonna have his back. After all that part of being a American.

Tisha

And I whole heartedly agree! Except when it comes to Bush. He went against the american will and said he didn’t care what congress or the american people want, played bully of the world, let our economy go to hell, and showed that his own agenda is all that mattered to him.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I feel like he turned his back on all of us and should have been impeached, then tried for treason.

I guess we can take a bit of solice in the fact that his legacy will be that he was the most unpopular president in american history.

I didn’t really like either candidate, but have to admit that Obama’s acceptance speech was moving. In a years time I guess we’ll start to see whether he’s going to be able to fulfill on his promises.

And this from someone that’s been a republican all his life!

Well said, it is about time we value people based on who they are inside and not the color of their skin.
Many people have gave their lives, so that we could live in this land of freedom. So that we stand side by side as equals, as Americans not as this color or that.
We live in the greatest country in the world in my opinion. I am not a political person, but I am glad that obama won, He fought a fair fight and won, the American people have spoken. The majority rules and they said, lets move toward a new day and a new world.
Love her or leave her, God bless America and God bless our new president and to hope, that we might put these troubled days behind us.

I didn’t like either candidate either… congrats to obama tho. There were 2 things that bothered me with obama…

  1. universal healthcare
  2. his high promises

I wont get into the healthcare but there is already reporting on how it will be “IMPOSSIBLE” for him to make good on all the promises he made. Plus he already downplayed them in his acceptance speach… idunno - i hope he does well. This country needs a good leader.

~Haz~

There were 2 things that bothered me with him too:

  1. Making promises without explaining how he intended to go about fulfilling on them, like:

a) We can save a planet
b) We can end a war

  1. His limited experience in government and foriegn affairs

Explanations please?

And, he could make good on all his promises. All it’s going to take is a firm committment on his part to put the country in a position of deficit spending of over a trillion dollars a year!

I did not vote at all becuase I did not like either candidate, i think both are horrible and both are in congress.

So for them to say they can fix everything when they should have been fixing it all along shows me they are both lieing.

since really congress is the one to blame for most of the problems we are in right now anyhow and their approval ratings are even lower then the president

i love george carlin quote on voting

The US is the only industrialized country in the world that doesn’t have health care. But, we’re Americans and we’re tough. If you can’t afford to see a doctor or your medicine, you deserve to die!:open_mouth:

Just one of the ways we’re behind other countries.

When the last Democratic President left office the United States had a balanced budget and a budget surplus. A Republican President and Congress took us to the largest budget deficit in history.:open_mouth: When the Democrats took over Congress, there were just enough Republicans left to block anything the Democrats wanted to do, and they did. The Republicans firmly believe that government can’t do anything right and rule to prove it.

Things like putting people who don’t like a particular agency in charge of it so they can destroy it.

Clinton was much more of a centrist than I expect Obama to be. Maybe now that Obama has been elected people will stop calling me racist for not liking socialism (it hasn’t stopped yet though).
I guess every generation has to flirt with socialism to learn their lesson, although Carter’s messes are still plagueing the world.

I have to agree with you there. I simply dont see how he can fulfill those promises without a way to bankroll them. They are quite costly… the ideas are fabulous… putting them into play is a whole different story me thinks…
time will tell, and I will be thrilled if he can actually pull it all off.
My health care went up $40 a month to over $300 a month for my family. And I have state merit, which is usually cheaper than most… watching and waiting…and vice versa..

No - you don’t have to die. Hospitals offer “free clinics” - if you lose your health insurance or don’t have any… goto the hospital and sign up. Someone I know (i happen to dislike them but thats besides the point) signed up for the clinic… got pregnant… Had a c-section int he hospital… and didn’t pay a single dime. Same goes for people who are sick. The united states has “Non-profit” hospitals… I work for one.

Universal health care would be good if everyone participated in paying for it… however… it’s going to be a drain on this country just like the diability tax is. How is it some people collect disability FOREVER and when my wife goes out for 6 surgeries in 1 friggan year… she can’t even get 1/2 of her paycheck!!! We pay into this type of shit and NEVER EVER get compensated properly.

BOO to universal healthcare! Sorry…

Here in Canada we faced the same thing. What happens is costs escalate. When they reach a point that isn’t sustainable services are cut to save money. When people die because of poor service doctors and hospitals are sued. After a while malpractice lawsuits are capped so the insurance is affordable. When this happens service slips further as the financial threat is gone. You can also look forward to new treatments and drugs not being approved by the government as a way to save money. Socialism breeds mediocrity.

Yep. Too many dis-incentives for excellence or performance.

A lot of people have not noticed the health care crisis the Candians have gone through - and very few notice the thousands of Canadians who come to the US for treatment. Now why would you do that with great universal health care?

It’s called Health Care Rationing. The Soviets achieved that in part by basically not treating anyone over 65 years old … how old are you Jim?

Uh-huh. Exactly. Age old questions for any politician - how can you keep all those promises, who are you beholden’ to and how will that detemine which promises get kept in which order and in what manner? Already talk from his staff about certain promises “on hold” due to current economic situation, etc.. There is always a fine print with politicians and lawyers.

You’re probably meaning Clinton. The reason Clinton looked so good was because he was reaping the benefits of two things: 1. Bush Senior’s hard work, and 2. computer sales. Bush jr. has had to deal with Clinton’s bad economics AND fight against people who hate your guts.

and i seriously doubt that NObama will clean up this mess. unless he cuts spending (which he promised NOT to do), this mess will only get worse.

First off, I know almost nothing as far as international and domestic politics goes, either in the form of the past, present or future. I am very uninvolved in politics. So take anything I say with a grain of salt.

I supported Obama mostly because I didn’t support McCain. I don’t know if Obama’s the man for the job experience wise, I’m pretty damn sure McCain isn’t it either. I’ll take my chances with Obama.

Speaking of Clinton, that man was impeached for a fucking blowjob. Bush has been ass-raping this country, as well as other countries, and he isn’t being fucking impeached? How about a slap on the wrist, can we at least get that one through? No..he’s gonna give him and his clique immunity before he leaves office. What a coward.

Now, I’m a liberal. If you guys haven’t figured it out by now, you need to read my posts more closely. :stuck_out_tongue: But I’m not deluded as to believe that we’ll get all those promises (I don’t even know, specifically what those promises are, believe it or not, yes call me a blind voter :stuck_out_tongue:) fulfilled without being able to write out checks.

No one should be getting on his case about how he’s been lying. People should be getting on the guy who spent all our damn money in the first place. He should have been reinvesting it into the country infrastructure, instead he spent it all on the military. How many billions of dollars? Oh, there’s a couple campaign promises worth right there..ooops, it’s gone now..poof.

Obama will definitely need to cut back spending and start saving money. If he can see that this is a priority and succeeds in doing so, he will have my vote again. I don’t expect him to fulfill all his promises. I do expect him to turn this country around onto the right path. That path, IMO, begins with economic stability. Being in debt is not stable.
