if you haven’t tried windows 7 yet, it is awesome!
once it gets released get it!!! ![]()
I have a Mac, unfortunately, an older PPC G-5 one so I won’t be able to do the Snow Leopard update in September… I might have to start selling off my separated wife’s perfumes (rarely used bottles), clothes and other junk so I can buy a new one.
Once you go Mac you don’t go back… ![]()
lol mac… lol ![]()
they nice, but windows ! ![]()
thinking about buying a dell mini 9, and installing os x on it, (it is possible )
Yawn, right now on my desk is a Vista box, a MAC OS-X box and a Linux lap top.![]()
Posting from the OS-X system.
I like good views,
Webster definition of Vista : a distant view through or along an avenue or opening
Micro$oft definition : a distant view through or along an avenue or opening to hell
Now then Bloatware operating systems just suck.
lol
, im going dual boot linux on this laptop with wind 7. hope all goes well ! ![]()
vista sp2 is not installing well. worst patch tuesday ever.
I had a terrible time with Vista initially…
now it has pretty much calmed down and everything is working fine
I also have a fairly new desktop with oodles of ram and speed.
I’m happy with my little Linux driven desktop. And it doesn’t even need much ram or speed to have all the pretty 3D desktop stuff like Vista (and beyond). I only use Windows as my kind of playstation… ![]()
Moore’s law- every 18 months the speed and number of transistors in a microprocessor double.
Gate’s law- every 18 months the size of software doubles and the speed halves…
Vista had no rhyme or reason. Not even the allure of DirectX 10 was enough to compensate for the utter stupidity that is such a horridly designed operating system. My current build is just over a couple months old and it’s staying XP until 7 comes along.
I’m gonna throw myself into this conversation as well.
As a longtime Windows user, I switched to a Mac two years ago for a few reasons. One, the hardware. At the time I switched, all Windows-based computers were rather boring. They lacked anything real to set them apart, and as a future design student, I wanted something that screamed of aesthetic beauty. When Apple started using Intel chips, and BootCamp became a reality, I had no reason not to commit to a new operating system, especially after having tried it out on an iBook G3 (in a wonderful tangerine color.
) that I acquired for a mere grand off of Craigslist. A MacBook Pro was my way to go, and I got myself one.
Keep in mind that at the time, I had messed around with all three big OS’s fairly intensely. I’d used many Linux distro’s, half just to “be different” and half because many of them had pleasing UI systems. However I found the approach of leaving all of the under-the-hood stuff visible to users rather bothersome. Not that I didn’t utilize it, but I just didn’t want to always have to see it every time.
Windows XP had become boring. I wanted an OS that wouldn’t bog up it’s registry, would be far less susceptible to viruses, and would ultimately set me apart in a “cool” and “trendsetter” manner. Now look at what’s happened… walk into any upper-education lecture hall and half of the computers are macs, almost guaranteed. And now PCs are beginning to catch on to the fact that design does matter. Dell’s Studio and XPS lines are eye-catching. HP… well I’m not a giant fan of their traditional desktops and laptops but their netbooks are amazing!
I’m personally at the point where I use my MacBook Pro for anything hardware intensive. I’ve put XP on it via BootCamp, and run many games quite well (a testament to the hardware). Vista wasn’t worth it for me… I like the UI of Vista, I really do, but it’s just not worth having a pre-bloated OS. (Try TinyVista or vLite for a stripped out version.) I’d rather have simple and powerful (XP and Mac), and customize them myself to look pretty.
Windows 7 is amazing, I’ll give you that. But what is it, really? It’s a fix-up. It’s what Vista should have been from the start. It’s basically a leaned out version of everything Vista was meant to be. (Just as Snow Leopard is a leaned out version of the normal Leopard.) Both lack any “real” upgrade from their predecessor, but at least Snow Leopard only costs $30 to upgrade from Leopard. Windows 7?.. it’s gonna hurt to get what everyone thought they had paid for originally.
Just my two cents. Will I use Windows 7? Probably… but I’ll probably wait for a new computer before I do that. In the meantime I’m set with my Mac/XP MacBook Pro and my HP Mini netbook running vista (quite snappily too I might add).
ill give macs one thing, they look great!
unlike most pc’s that have all the cracks and wabbaly parts that isnt good eye candy
.
just installed ubuntu its nice, but differnt lol. windows 7 is what vista should been, and m$ should release it for cheap, but they aint m$ for a reason lol… aint going happen…
