Pheromones are natural chemicals released by your body in order to trigger responses in the receiver. They are used in all parts of the animal kingdom, and not just for sexual nature. For example the queen ant releases a certain pheromone to keep all the worker ants happy and working, and so they know that she’s still there.
In humans, we release different chemicals to promote different feelings. For example, we release androstenone when we are ready for sexual relations and we want to push the relationship forward. We release Androstenol when we want the receiver to feel relaxed with us. And androsterone when we want to be dominant. These are all released without us being concious of it all the time, and they are processed through the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus.
