"I feel like I've known your forever"

Can you help answer some questions about this topic:

I’d like to learn more about people having the “I feel like I’ve known you forever” (IKYF) experience – typically after one long night of conversation/intercourse (social or sexual) or very early on at the beginning of a relationship – “too early” to be a normal outcome of meeting someone.

  1. How old when you first had an IKYF experience?
  2. Did you feel it, or did someone say they felt it about you?
  3. Any notable circumstances about your (first, subsequent) IKYF experiences?
  4. If your IKYF experiences stopped at some point, when / about how old were you?
  5. If your IKYF experiences have continued, please comment on how often they arise.
  6. Has the frequency of IKYF experiences changed?
  7. Has the quality of IKYF experiences changed?
  8. About how many times has the IKYF experience occurred in your life (ballpark) – either [a] you felt “IKYF” or ** someone told you they felt “IKYF”
*]Have applied synthetic pheros had any part in your IKYF experiences? If yes, please elaborate.
    THANKS!

wow - i don’t think i’ve ever had one of those with anyone that I haven’t known forever.

but then again, i’m a bit inscrutable, so maybe my personality just doesn’t lend itself to that sort of thing.

Im sure I have at some point though I cant remember the specifics!

ANSWERS

  1. 17 y.o.
  2. two women said it to me in the same night within a couple hours (they were BFF)
  3. Yeah i got to have sex with both the same night(not at the same time). It was really weird. Definitely alcohol played a part. Some Marines bought us alcohol and I got to enjoy both women.
  4. My last one was December of 2005. A total hottie MILF. I think i just turned 24 and we were just starting to get intimate (from meeting to doing it, must have been 1 week).
  5. Since number four, it hasn’t happened, although many “friends” do feel like they’ve known me…in reality most have only known me for about 2 months.
  6. Umm, for me they seem to be sporadic, however, if i were to hypothesize, maybe they have decreased since high school. I attribute this the termination of a 6 year relationship (since i was 18 yo), most likely weight gain (not all bad, mostly muscle, friends say from “freddie Prinze Jr. to Johnny Depp”), and a definite change in character (some due to the long relationship, some due to maturity). Many friends, collegues, and superiors use me as their “muscle man” because of the fact that i have put on a substantial amount of muscle mass since high school. I practice Karate, Aikido, as well as being a homegrown bodybuilder and sports fanatic.
  7. Quality-wise..Definitely. When i was younger and much less heavy (try 120lbs @ 5’6’’ then, as opposed to 185lbs @ 5’8" now) it was more lust than love. This could also be due to the life stage i was going through, as well as everyone else(as an adolescent). As i got older it seemed more quality “i have known you forever” type feelings from women. This could be due to the emotional maturity of the women i dated, as well as the overall age of the women i dated. To be honest, i much prefer the quality over the quantity.
  8. At least once every three months being very social as a sagittarius.
  9. Amazingly, Since i started applying pheros (about 2 years ago) i have not had a IKYF moment(save for one @ the very beginning of my phero experimentation). It seems to be, at least from my experience, due to how well the female and i can connect rather than the pheros alone.

Hope this helps!
HH

I’ve never experienced one of those either.

I actually didn’t even think about it until I read this post, but “the girl” said that to me at her house. It was weird, but I paid no mind to it at the time.

From what I saw, this (known you forever) usually happens when there is a strong alignment between two people minds, thoughts and feelings.

One person thinks that this other person is ‘just like me all along’, or is a perfect projection to an image they had of a person for a long time (think soulmate, idol, Mr right, twin, etc ..).

This level of ‘understanding’ requires the two to communicate very well to start off, verbal or otherwise. Doesn’t have to be long, but it has to be effective.

If no communications take place, then there is very little chance of meeting this situation.

Can it be induced with pheromones ?. I’d say it can be ‘enhanced’ with phero’s, but they won’t create it from scratch.

These were fairly common in my early 20s, always mutual, and increasingly rare after that time.

I read a book called “Instant Rapport” that discussess how to this happens. It deals with the way people process things (eg visual, auditory, kinesthetic) how to create rapport by mirroring their communication “strategies”. Which is all well and good but the means described to “unpack” these strategies seemed a little cumbersome.
Mystery Method also suggests using several different threads of conversation as most friends do when they talk instead of one linear thread that most newly aquainted people use.

I’ve gotten it a couple of times. A friend said it to me after a month of spending a lot of time together, saying that he felt like he’s known me all his life rather than just the few short months since we’d met. Another time it was a friend of my cousin’s, who I wasn’t close with at all. I made her laugh though, and it was in the middle of a giggle that she told me this.

Maybe we become more analytical with age … let out concious mind take over more often.

I think you’re hitting on it Mak - i think when you’re 20, “forever” is relative - it can be like you’ve known someone for a whole year!

But when you’re 30 or so, and times start creeping up and you realize youv’e known people or done certain things for decades..it’s a different story.

It takes some effort to convert baggage into learnings. Convert weight into training wheels.

It takes more effort, to tread the fine line between brain and instinct. If age is of any benefit, it would be just the more time spent trying to achieve that.
