Image Pic Resizing

I was reading through Somechick’s journal and notice that some of us have had trouble in the past trying to put up any pics because of the system here. I hope I do not get in trouble here as I am not promoting any product or website, but I have found a website that allows you to resize your image for free and you do not have to store or save anything. I think the max size is about 160X160 for the pixels I can’t remember but I hope this helps someone. It is very easy to use.

To resize I use the free edition of the software GIMP. Works nice. Does other nifty things too like red eyes correction, cropping and other edit options.

If you don’t want the full functions of Gimp - Or some of the nasty spy/malware that comes with the likes of front-ends like Gimpshop, Faststone Image Viewer is a pretty competent free lmage-editor that has a low system load and will do all the basic tasks you need.

I have also used this one for years as I had to resize pics for Ebay, and found the fastone image viewer was capable to do so without losing quality when downsizing or upsizing so here are my instructions for doing it correctly…

RESIZE METHOD (PC): Download Faststone image viewer Free at www. faststone.org which we can use to resize and even change the jpg quality to 90 if you grabbed from google if its too low.

Resize is all most need: Load the photo. HIT CTRL+R at same time (press down ctrl, hold it down and press R). Enter 525 in width under pixels (or 1600, 160 or any width) and it will automatically change the other dimensions. Hit CTRL+S to save and overwrite if you want to replace the original image with the new sized image.

Make sure preserve aspect ratio is selected at bottom, and change the resize method to lanczos2 sharper, the settings will remain for all the future times you do this so this is first time only. This will ensure the quality remains when you resize. Many image resizers will lose quality in the photo when resizing.

Advanced: Change the JPG quality: When you hit CTRL+S you can save as a JPG or other types of image formats. If the image is JPG it will show right there the image quality. Ebay for example wants 90 or higher, so if the quality of the image is under 90 and you dont have another pic, click options and then use the slider to change to 90, it will again upscale and most of the time now you have an ebay optimized photo in seconds. In general you only need to adjust the width and resize and not the jpg quality, but this is info how to do also. I would generally try to find another photo if the jpg quality was poor. 99% of the time I just resize and thats all.

Sometimes I use LIGHTSHOT, an extension for google chrome for snipping photos which displays the dimensions as you snip.

PC version if you prefer not to use chrome is at url: prnt.sc

I also use GREENSHOT as well, : Greenshot which works outside of chrome for capturing screenshot/snip. Both are good.
