Everyone goes on and on about the amazing and blatant self-effects of Instant Shine. I’ve been using the 2x version on 5 or 6 occasions now (1 to 3 sprays to neck/face), and I don’t think whatever “upbeat” moodswings I’ve been having (haven’t really, though) can be attributed to it. Am I immune, or is my bottle neroli + water? :o
It’s a fallacy to use artifical pheromones as self-medication. You quickly develop tolerance and, if you need it as a physiological crutch, will soon be disappointed. Develop your emotional control and character from within, and ultimately you’ll be a happier and more successful person. With that said, I like IS for the effects it has on my causal acquaintances and new friends. Nevertheless, I find it to be subtle and at best used in conjunction with social pheromones such as alpha and/or beta androstenol.
With all that said, I do recall the “buzz” I got off pheromones years ago when I first started. I did enjoy the rush, especially off high doses of Androstenol and androstenone products. After a few sessions I had to use inordinately high doses to feel anything. I had to remind myself I was using these chemicals to create a better and stronger impression with new people I met, not get high. It’s a lot cheaper and more effective to spring for nip of spirit or mary jane.
I’m not using them for self-medication. I’m just wondering why I’m not seeing on myself the effects that are so frequently talked about.
I figured the same after the first week or so after using Instant Shine. I also thought that it had no effect on others, but if you take a break from it for a week or so, and then reapply, note the subtle differences. Instant Shine isn’t going to have you bouncing off of the walls. It is a mood lifter at best, but if you’re already down, it may be difficult to bring you back up wearing it. I noticed that it made a great deal of a difference realizing its effects when wearing it around people that are normally crabby. For instance, at work, there’s a female manager who is always bitchy, but when wearing Instant Shine around her (as well as A314), it has mellowed her out some. I know that it is the Shine, because she is only this way when I’m wearing it around her.
EDIT: Also try to apply Instant Shine on the inside of your wrists to effect others, and the upper part of your neck or directly in your face for self effects. Not sure where your application points are.
kheddar,
Your failure to notice any effects is probably because you’re actively watching and analysing your every move. A person being watched will change their behaviour, either consciously or unconsciously. This is true for humans, animals, and hell, even subatomic particles. Read any book on quantum mechanics.
What I would do is apply the pheromones and then go and do something else that will take your mind off them. Forget about them, forget you ever put them on.
Then meet up with friends or your SO, and then see if they make any comments like, “Hey, you sound / look different. What’s up?”
Then you’ll notice.

I need to play with this more.
I honestly haven’t seen much in “self-effects” either. Like gegogi I have had some initial “buzzes” from some products, but it may have been more a reaction to the concentrated carriers/scents. Usually after the first exposure I get nada. But I also lack a large enough collection of “test subjects” to get feedback from to say for sure. But I also try to go into a “forget I’m wearing something” mindset ASAP. There is danger in overthinking/overobserving. Can read too much into things. (oooh, she bit her fingernail… she must WANT me!)
