Our son had a swimming lesson and my wife did not feel well enough to come. So I took him on my own and sat down for coffee with a mother (“B”) we’d met there whilst her daughter went for a swimming lesson too. We were joined by B’s older (teenage) daughter (“K”).
I’d put on three bursts of ammunition and some instant female magic. I think I put some shine on my wrists too but I don’t remember.
Anyway, I felt like I was in the zone right off and was pretty at ease with myself, even though I’d been nervous to come knowing I’d be sitting alone with B without my wife to bounce stuff off during conversation. I did not know that K was coming but she was quietly studying German as B and I chatted. I lost the thread of conversation a few times and digressed way too much but I was comfortable.
Anyway, after a while K mumbled something to B about wanting a drink. B said to K that she should use the money she had. Then K revealed that she’d put the money into a vending machine and it had not come out - money or soda.
Well, as I was in the zone I got to my feet and said “Leave it to me”. I headed to the machine and tapped it once where the money goes in. Fifty pence tumbled to the change drawer below and I proudly took the ten paces back to B and K. B was pretty impressed but K, a typical teen, just pocketed the money with a sullen look and mumbled “there were two fifty pences”.
And here’s where it gets interesting (finally).
I nod my head in confidence and get to my feet. I take two steps back towards the machine to go after the second stuck penny and EVEN BEFORE I REACH IT the money tumbles out!. B was amazed. I put my arms out and said “Wow, was that jedi powers or what?” B agreed and commented that even the Fonz had to physically touch the jukebox to get it to work.
Okay, I know that the pheromones had nothing to do with this. But I wanted to share. Its really true as I have written it.
