This was my second interview for an IS manager job. There were 3 interviewers. 1 man (manager) and 2 women (supervisors). I had worked at previous facility as the female Q.A. supervisor. She was a history of being really tough on people and always finds something negative to say. Well the 1 1/2 hr. interview went very well with the manager asking most of the questions and I could feel 3 pairs of eyes on me every minute. He asked the ladies if they wanted to ask more questions. The Q.A. supervisor said she already was aware of my work habits. The other was concerned if I accepted the job the hours might be too much for me. I had mentioned that at the 1st interview. I told her I would have to do some soul searching before the Thursday deadline. With that we had some casual discussions and the manager walked me out. He told me he really want someone with my abilities and would like to try to work something out to get me on board. He wondered if I would like to join the corporate steering group for inquiring into the new IS software. The group is stationed out of state. Then I said maybe and added he was going to need a second person come database build, training, procedures, and conversion.
Well my wife works at the lab and just called me saying he is going to offer me a part time job. I would be over a full time IS person. Strange but good. I don’t know if the pheromones helped, but they did not hurt. The self effect was very uplifting and positive.
