making straight men go gay?

I think it’s a good thing for everyone to retain some integrity in our own opinions, ideals and actions. We all believe in some good things, and while those things may differ between different people, nothing wrong would happen if everybody honestly tried to live up to their own beliefs.
My father, for example. He’s a strict roman-catholic. He likes to preach sometimes for the sanctity of the sacred sacrament of marriage. And, while there have been some problems in the past between him and my mother (his wife), I never heard him publicly state that she’s not normal, or that he regrets to have settled for too little. I’m also sure he wouldn’t use pheromones to try and get another woman. Because he’s married and that’s sacred for him. And while sometimes I hated him for preaching when in my opinion he should just shut up, live and let live, I can honestly say that he never commited the sin of hipocrisy.

Thank you  I am glad your are not offended. I dont mean to laugh but you remind me of my husband when he go’s off on a Glen Beck tangent. I dont watch TV because its all programming (no pun intended) Even Glen is programming you to his opinion just like the government is using there resources to program you to theirs. Sometimes I have to smack my hubby and scream “snap out of it” to make him see more clearly. I feel that same fear coming off of him once in a while. Its not a fear of gay people or anything like that and I was not implying thats what you feared. Its a fear that we are losing control and our liberties as a nation and in essence we are losing our humanity. Dont worry thats what all the Mayan 2012 end of the world shit is about. Its not really the end of the world or life its the end of mankind allowing themselves to be programmed by religions, governments, corporations and even science.

People will stand up and take humanity back from them. Unfortunately one thing I do know is freedom and liberty doesn’t come free. There will be unrest before we get there but we will get there. I have faith in mankind.

Sorry this went off in direction unrelated to the original question just had to say my piece.

The truth? Your evidence that homosexuality (which has been shown in animals as well as humans) isn’t genetic or a matter of brain chemistry in others, or has an evolutionary advantage is YOUR experiences?

That’s not actual evidence by any means or scientific definition. Yes we “report” on pheromones here with a “trust” system, but the only real evidence comes from a scientific studies, otherwise how would we know If it wasn’t just snake oil. You think AD just “tells” each other yeah i think this is molecule K trust me it is…:open_mouth: no.

You see as a scientist you need actual scientific evidence done in a controlled atmosphere to refute other scientific claims. I don’t think your inflaming anyone here really. I mean all you’ve done is say you “side with the Bible”…grasshoppers

Now one “possible”…note that I’m saying only possible… explanation is what evolutionary psychologists call the “kin selection hypothesis.” What that means is that homosexuality may convey an indirect benefit by enhancing the survival prospects of close relatives. Specifically, the theory holds that homosexual men might enhance their own genetic prospects by being “helpers in the nest.” By acting altruistically toward nieces and nephews, homosexual men would perpetuate the family genes, including some of their own.

The case isn’t settled no..but it’s only with actual evidence can we get to “the truth” in science and what you’re making is a scientific claim.

But still the point is everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, but not his own facts
:smiley::smiley:

Couple of points, first off comparing true homosexuality to what happens in prisons is as offensive to gays as when I hear angry man hating gender feminists compare heterosexual sex to rape…they are soooooo remarkably not the same damn thing.
The incidents that occur in prison are not the result of a lack of options but rather a side effect of a large number of aggressive and violent males placed in a situation where a hierarchy needs to be established, for most, the only way to better impose and exert your dominance over another than beating him to a bloody pulp, is to emasculate him and “reduce” him to the role of a woman. The logic there that is felt but not articulated or verbalized is that “my masculinity is so strong compared to yours that you may as well be a woman” This is far and away not the same as men feeling a natural attraction toward other men.

Secondly, Tish is spot on with the observation that while acting or not acting on an impulse is conscious choice…having the impulse or desire itself is not. Don’t believe me? Try this little exercise.
Sit down and write down the following.
Your favorite food…and one that totally grosses you out.
Your favorite song…and the most annoying one you’ve ever heard.
The greatest (in your opinion) movie of all time…and anything from the Twilight Saga.

Now, deciding not to eat your favorite food is easy and a conscious choice, WANTING that food, and the feelings you get when you see it, or smell it cooking are not. So I’m not going to ask you to not eat your favorite food…simply choose to no longer like it.
Then choose to like the food that, up until you decided to change your mind, had grossed you out…I want you to now absolutely LOVE.

Likewise with the music, you can listen to your favorite song, but you’re not allowed to like it. You should however make yourself love the most annoying song of all time so much that you try to listen to it at every available opprotunity.

Likewise with the greatest movie ever and the Twilight Saga…I want you to force yourself to be riveted by the acting and storyline of that dreck like a 15 year old goth girl that insists on being addressed as Mrs Cullen.

Funny the guy’s name is rizingfire, yet he doesn’t want to ignite anything.

Actually I’m extremely offended by all of you. That’s why I keep coming back here. This is one of those conversations best left for the lounge. And I do believe that it’s ok. It is relevant. Our opinions and upbringing do affect our interactions, which affect how our mone signals are perceived.

I’m very annoyed with the idea of trying to change a person’s sexual orientation. I’m a hardcore bible thumping believer, but I love people, which is what Christianity is all about anyway. Yep I don’t agree with actions, but I don’t use that as judgement. I get just as pissed off when I hear straight guys wanting to turn gay women straight or straight women trying to trick gay guys into doing something. Come on. Deception is deception. It doesn’t matter what your beliefs are. It’s deception.

On a biblical stand point, yep God says the ‘act’ of a man laying with a man is an abomination. It does not say that one man can’t love another. Rizingfire, I’m impress with your life change, but I think you should check your facts again. The Bible says that we are born with inequities. That means we are born twisted towards certain thoughts. The Bible says that we get these inequities from generations before us. Yes society and media play a big role, but you’re looking for truth right? There is nature and nurture. You can’t ignore either one.

That very same portion of the Bible also states that it’s a sin to wear clothing made of two fabrics…do you happen to own a cotton/polyester blend? It states as well that a disrespectful or disobedient child should be stoned to death publicly by his parents. It’s from Deuteronomy. Now I was taught that everything from the Old Testament was effectively retconned or basically made null and void by the coming of Christ and the Golden Rule. However a lot of people will cling PARTS of Deuteronomy or the Ten Commandments as the word of God yet invoke the Golden Rule when laws are brought up that they don’t personally disagree with. If you’re citing Deuteronomy then you must hold true to ALL of Deuteronomy.

It reminds me of the extreme evangelical right wingers that claim AIDS is Gods punishment for gays…how Christian is that considering that when he lived Leppers were thought to be punished by God and Christ freely kept company with them and would often heal them of their affliction?

Whoa bro!! Did you read my entire post? I do believe we were in agreement until a few minutes ago. Actually I own an organic cotton clothing line. No I don’t have a polyster cotton/blended shirt. I like pure cotton. Of course I own blended clothing. The laws of Moses were meant to seperate the Israelites from the rest of the world. How else do you take people out of one culture and completely change them without inundating them with laws. Some of those laws were also for health reasons.

I seriously think you need to go back and read my post again. Because I was agreeing with you!!!

However the bible does say the act is an abomination. The word abomination means perversion or disgust. It calls the act unnatural. The Bible does not call it a sin. The word Sin means rebellion.

How the heck did I miss another theological argument

I don’t know. I was originally coming in to find out why someone thought pheromones would make another person change their sexuality. Then I opened my big mouth again and completely forgot to respond to the pheromone question.

EST, P74, ANol, BNol

I’m assuming if a gay guy is interested in a straight guy it may be because of the sexual polarization. So if the straight guy has a lot of masculine energy then you need to have feminine energy. Don’t try to hide. Be yourself. If he’s interested then he will be interested. If not move on.

Everyone has their points. It’s still pretty civil from what I’ve seen. I know out of all people that these things can get heated quickly and sometimes be misconstruted.

that would be something though…
like imagine a pheromone you spray and it will turn straight people fruitier than pebbles oooooh man lol one second they will be talking about models their trying to hook up with, and the next second their painting their nails lavendar and gossiping about oprah.
call it instant u-turn

btw u guys get a little too philosophical lol i think he was just wondering a yes or no and u steered it to the coming of chrrist haah oh man all jokes aside thhough yeah i dont think it’ll work.Sorry

{yawn}

Why is it that I knew from reading the first paragraph of rizingfire’s first post, that the post would reference the Bible, the Judeo-Christian God, George W. Bush, Rome burning, tapping into anti-intellectual fears, and labeling science “left-wing propaganda”?

yawn, again.

“The way to see by faith is to close the eye of reason” Benjamin Franklin

See he was a smart man. He understood. That’s why he closed his eyes and prayed.

I couldn’t help myself. Ok I’m done with this thread. I have no clue what George Bush has to do with pheromones. Maybe he buys them. I don’t know.

I don’t wanna make anyone mad but his forum is to better ourselves And to not waste time arguing about 1s sexual preference. If a person is happy let them be. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness is what America was founded on. So quit arguing whether it’s a choice or it’s genetic. Who cares, people are the way they are because they are.

That’s a great article from New Scientist…can you imagine a straight guy going in…getting his brain scanned and the doc is like …“Well Mr. Smith”…turns out you don’t have cancer…but you are gay.

It’s amazing how humans are still trying to define sexuality by religion, politics or cultural moralities. Since science itself claims to understand a very small percentage of our brain & bodies, I don’t believe you can rule out biological as a possible explanation for homosexuality. All fetuses are the same sex until a certain point of growth. That’s a scientific fact.

Empirical observation of other animals has proven that homosexuality can occur in nature. It was also proven to occur under certain conditions in controlled laboratory testing in the 1950’s & 1970’s, as well. I daresay those experiments are easily repeatable today.

In addition, some people who have undergone traumatic mental, physical or sexual abuse by either the opposite sex or the same sex may choose (even subconsciously) to change their sexual preferences for all or just part of their lives. Who are we to judge them & how they should live their lives?

You can’t use cultural & societal beliefs to argue against homosexuality. That’s like saying one country doesn’t believe striped horses to exist. Yet, in another country, there are only striped horses & the people there refuse to believe there are any other kind. Guess what? There are striped horses(zebras & zorses) & many other kinds. Even tho our world has become global, many countries still deny anything other than what their culture or society dictates to them, whether it exists or not. Some cultures practiced human sacrifice. Why not now? Some cultures believed slavery was okay & that slaves were your own property to deal with as you liked. Do you want to try being a slave? Hey, even Judaism, Christianity, Islam & many other religions condone slavery.

Using religion to deny or punish homosexuality is a cop-out. Christians don’t have the right to preach against homosexuality since the Christ never spoke on the subject. Judaic writings against homosexuality have to be read in context of the time, location & events in which they were referenced. Most of the anti-gay references in the Old Testament were written to keep the Jewish people ‘in-line’. They were in the initial stages of forming their own nation & culture & their leaders didn’t want them straying to other religions (most of which were fertility-based at that time). In order to do that, sexual restrictions were pronounced. It was of primary importance that the people ‘be fruitful & multiply’. Look at the large families that they were encouraged to procreate, including the use of polygamy. Even incest was condoned in the Bible (ex: Lot & his daughters), as well as in many other ancient cultures. And you think homosexuality is still wrong? People point to the story of Sodom & Gomorrah as being anti-gay. Then why would Lot offer his daughters to the men of those cities if they were wanting gay sex from Lot’s visitors (the Angels)? Duh! The story was about hospitality & how some people/societies sink into depravities of ALL kinds to excess without regard for the rights of others or respecting their personages.

In the same Old Testament book that speaks against homosexuality, it also considers the eating of pork, shrimp & several other foods as being just as great a sin in God’s eyes. Even touching women or using anything touched by them during their menstrual period was considered a great sin. How many of you are in violation of those laws? Of course, you might remember that those laws were written during a certain time for a certain people & for certain reasons of that time.

The word homosexuality was not even used until later King James versions of the Bible were translated & written.

In Native American culture, although homosexuality was not particularly favored, it was accepted. The spiritual belief was that the person was inhabited by ‘two spirits’, both male & female and if that was what the Great Spirit gave one, then it should not be denied, but instead accepted. Many of those ‘two-spirit’ Native Americans were raised & taught the shamanic ways as a medicine man/woman since it was believed that having both spirits made them better able to guide their people in their spiritual lives.

As to gay ‘marriage’, you have to first look at the original meaning & interpretation of the word. I accept that it was originally meant as a binding agreement between a man & a woman for the purposes of legal procreation & living together as a single family unit, as well as imposing responsibilities of safety, protection & support for food, shelter & clothing. That is how families were formed & their genealogy continued. No one can really say whether it was originally cultural or religious or a mixture of the two. I may be mistaken, however. I do know that in medieval European times, same sex marriages were performed by the Church. There is written evidence of it, however little it might be. I also know that Native American ‘two spirit’ persons could take a spouse of the same sex if they wanted to. It may have been rare, but it was acceptable if they chose to stay with the tribe. Some chose to live alone & apart from the rest of the tribe. I see nothing wrong with using ‘civil union’ to term the joining of 2 same-sex persons to form a family unit. If the various religions want to ‘trademark’ marriage for their own use, that’s fine with me. I believe that each religious institution has the right to set it’s own beliefs & requirements for being a member of that religion. Isn’t that why you join a church, temple or mosque? Because you want to believe in what they believe & practice your religion the same way they do?

Where I have a problem with religion is them saying I don’t have the right to join with another person of the same sex to form my own family unit & to have the same legal rights conferred. Legal rights should not be dictated by religious views. If you did, then every religion & culture represented in a country would have different legal rights. How much of a mess would that create? Don’t you think that was probably one of the main reasons our founding fathers wanted to create the separation of church & state? Religions, churches, temples & mosques don’t have to accept ‘gay civil unions’ in their religious beliefs, but they should HAVE TO accept it as a legal definition with the same legal rights as legal ‘marriage’. If straight people don’t want gay people using the word ‘marriage’ to define their family unit, then why not just vote on it? Wouldn’t that be pretty simple?

I hope your marriage and Tea Party-affiliation are going swimmingly. Something tells me you have it all figured out. sarcasm

Your misinterpretation of “The Bible” is eye-rollingly sophomoric (It’s time for you to step out from behind your undoubtedly over-highlighted King James-translation of “the good book”.). Please preach somewhere other than a pheromone forum. You’ve got the wrong audience here. Your energies would be much better spent trying to walk on water, or, ya know…on learning to love yourself as God does.
