Natural scent of a man & connection to relationships

Would the ladies here have opinions or experiences about the natural scent of a man, and if that has anything to do with the relation they may have had with that particular man.

Why I’m asking is because,in my own case, that relation was always true. There is not a woman I had a long term relationship with, that did not feel and comment positively about my own natural scent. It could have been a coincidence, but maybe it is not.

This is the natural scent, not the after shower, spray-related, cologne or synthetic/additive pheromone-induced scents.

Yes, we call this, YOUR, scent, “SOAM”. (Scent of a Man.)

Google that. You’ll find soam addicts everywhere, whether they’re aware of pheromones or not.

My Husband dosn’t wear any after shave or cologne. I adore his natural scent. It is not something I consciously notice all the time and I am not talking about his pits after a long workout.:open_mouth: I mean just the natural scent of his skin. He leaves for work very early in the morning sometimes 2 or 3 AM and alot of times I will roll over to his side of the bed and sleep there so I can smell his pillow which always has his scent on it a few days after wash day. It always makes me feel safe and happy. Depending on my mood it can make me feel other things but I won’t go there.

I can sometimes smell him when he enters a room without looking up to see that it is him. The only other people I consciously notice the scent of are my kids (sometimes that is BO LOL) and my father and grandmother.

My Grandmother has past away now but I have the quilt from her Bed which smells just like her. Its a soft, cuddly, happy smell. I dont no if it is a scent she wore or if it was natural but she always smelled that way and I never came across it on anyone else. I put it in a airtight bag so it would not lose that smell and when I miss her I open it up and take a wiff.

When I was 15 I was in a bad accident and was in the hospital for a few weeks. I did alot of tossing and turning and was in pain and my mom told me the only thing that would make me calm was if my Dad stayed with me. He had to work but he would leave his jacket and I would sleep cuddled up to it and always feel better. His is a strong safe smell as well.

I dont no if we have a VNO or not. I tend to think we as humans have evolved more than animals so we probably have other more direct pathways to the brain that are more complex but thats just a personal opinion. I do know that all scents can trigger all sorts of feeling in people consciously and subconsciously. I think we notice our other senses more like sight or touch. I think the sense of smell is under rated.

i just realized that i am a study reading fool.

anyways - i read another study specifically about this. Apparently because your natural scent amplifies your genetic makeup - women (and i suppose men if there noses were sharper) should have long-term babymaking rleationships with men whos smell they like, because is an indication that the couple has a diverse enough gene pool to make healthy babies with.

Iirc the one article i read had made note that women on birth control had a different issue tho - since the bcp is like a mock pregnancy. Apparently when women are ovulating they seek out a man very different from themselves, genetically speaking - but when they are pregnant they find the smell of those closely related more compelling (like a father, brother, etc) I think this speaks to a certain nesting sensisibility - where if you can’t fend for yourself - the men who are already closely bonded to you will take care of you, jsut because you’re part of the tribe.

So - on the bcp - women are selecting guys who’s smell is similar to their own, because of their hormonal environment, but in reality - they are guys that are not biodiverse enough. Should they get off the pill, some find that the scent is unappealing - because as i understant it, it should be unappealing for mating purposes.

Also apparently a common comment that pops up in divorced couples is that the woman just can’t stand the smell of the guy.

I’ll see what i can do track down the article. I’m sure it’s much more easy to comprehend then my rambling. I’m only half way thru my first cup of coffee.

here’s one:
The Smell of Love - Healthy Living: Living a healthy lifestyle for disease prevention on MedicineNet.com

can’t remember if it’s exactly the one I read, but it’s got the right references.

Every man I’ve had a long term relationship with I loved his scent. One man who I had a difficult, non-monogamous relationship with had a scent that wasn’t exactly to my liking. I was very sexually attracted to him, but I’m honestly not sure how much of that was colored by the difficulty of our relationship (some sort of conquest game came into play between us). I was not on the pill when I was with him.

Another man who I had a difficult relationship with had a scent that didn’t thrill me either way. Towards the end, I recall hating it.

My current BF’s smell I love. When we first started, I was not on the pill. He’s the man I’ve had the strongest love feelings for and also the strongest sexual attraction for. Our sex life is fantastic. We are very different phenotypically. We come from very different genetic backgrounds: everything about us from hair texture to skin color to body type is different. Even our resistance to infection and our mental processes: where he is weak, I am strong and vice versa. It is almost as if we are polar opposites in terms of many physical traits, yet we have common values and socio-economic factors. I have always felt part of our bond is due to our diversity, and that were we to have children, they would be very excellent specimens of humanity, very strong and very healthy, because if we filled in each other’s gaps, we’d have an intelligent, good-looking, strong, flexible, nearly disesase-resistent human!

i loved my ex’s scent.

i saw him again recently under sad circumstances and after being separated for a year and a half (even longer) and i have to say smell makes a difference.

you can talk to someone and take them or leave them, colored by conflicts or dissagreements, but smelling them puts them at the forefront of your thoughts.

My most recent love interest wears cologne when he goes to work or if we are going out somewhere…but, I notice that when I nuzzle his neck, I can smell his natural scent underneath whatever cologne he may be wearing…I have often been able to recognize the scent of a man that I am with, but not as prominently as I can his…I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we spend a lot of time just cuddling and holding (and smelling) each other when we are just hanging out, with no colognes or perfumes…

The man I am currently with has a very distinct smell. This is the first time I really recall really noticing a scent on a man I have been with. It might be in part that he doesnt wear any cologne etc, but I have to also say this is one of the ‘hottest’ sexual attractions I have ever had, and one of the most deeply bonded relationships I have been in. I do remember not wanting to sleep next to my X at the end of our relationship, perhaps that was a subconcious scent thing, I just know I didnt like him near me, and it seemed to come out of the blue.
