I know people say the neroli scent is supposed to be light and somewhat citrus-like (someone even said it smells like men’s cologne), but for whatever reason, all the sprays I’ve used with neroli in it smell like strong, flowery women’s perfume. Maybe I have a sensitive/unususal olfactory system, and it really smells like orange to everyone else around me. It smells like strong perfume to me. Am I the only one who finds this the case?
Is Neroli the default scent in the to-go sizes?
Yeah, unless it’s marked otherwise.
Hmmm. . . it doesn’t really smell like oranges to me for some reason. I can’t really explain the scent though. I’m kind of new to the whole perfuming world. The scent just doesn’t strike me as citrus.
Neroli smells like fermented or sour oranges to me. Very unpleasant indeed, but easily covered with a good cologne.
Yeah, I know quite a few women like their pheromones chocolate scented, but I’m not sure I really want to wear a fragrance that smells like chocolate. That would just make me hungry and a little awkward. Not really my type of scent. I kind of like the neroli, primarily because it is so easy to cover with my own perfume.
Quite honestly, I’m surprised I like Love Potion Pink so much, since it smells like cotton candy to me. I usually go for more flowery or fruity scents than food. I know it’s a food, but vanilla is my favorite so far. . . ![]()
What types of scents do you guys like on a woman?
Well, let me preface by saying any smell, no matter how good or bad, can be ruined if there’s too much of it. Again, it might be my sensitivity, but I commonly find women shower themselves in their scent, so 10 minutes after they leave a room, it still reeks. When it’s a smell that i don’t like, it’s even worse. So, too much perfume=bad.
I actually sort of like the neroli smell as a scent, it just doesn’t smell like the way it’s been described to me. Citrus-based scents and flowery scents are nice on women. Grapefruit being my favorite. There’s this one perfume that came out in the winter (January?) that was amazing. I was walking through the Macy’s cosmetic section (it was for a class project–I swear!) and a woman handed me a strip with the perfume sprayed on. It has a tropical theme on the box: bright pink, a stylized woman holding something, lots of colors (anyone know?)…anyway, it was amazing! It reminds me of a tropical summer day. Passionfruit, grapefruit/some citrus, and a few other scents I couldn’t figure out (I’m pretty new to scents and perfumery/cologne). I stood there sniffing the paper for a good five minutes and I was tempted to buy a small bottle just so I could smell it, it was that good! Just thinking about it makes me happy and funnily enough, it’s that kind of smell that makes my mouth water, not in a perverted way–it’s just the kind of scent that you want to drink in and experience.
See, I don’t find anything citrusy about neroli when i smell it, good or bad. It’s strong at first, but does wear off after a while.
I had a feeling more men liked more fruity/citrus scents. I remember in high school I was wearing a berry scented deodorant and a guy friend of mine practically had his nose in my armpit cuz he liked the smell so much. Lol.
I don’t think neroli smells anything like typical citrus fruit, e.g., grapefruit, lime or lemon. Rotten fruit (I said fermented oranges to be kind) is more characteristic of its scent. However:
It does sorta have a citrus origin. I really love the smell of citrus fruits: grapefruit, lime, lemon, tangerine, etc. I wish AD used actual grapefruit or tangerine EO instead. It would blend well with Burberry Weekend, CK One Summer, Chrome, Issey Miyake Summer, etc.
I do not really care for the neroli scent either. I would rather even the stronger products be unscented and cover them with my cologne. I always seem to smell the neroli scent even trhough any cologne I use.
