NLP is not particularly useful for direct application to the PUA scene… it can actually be distracting as it is too technical, breaking all interactions down into small definitional “chunks” instead of focusing on the holistic gestalt of the interaction… NLP in general suffers from being too obsessed with particulars at the expense of getting the interaction generally right.
The most important issues are broad, framed by basic questions such as, are you on the same level intellectually ? A 20 watt bulb and a 200 watt bulb don’t shed light in the same way.
Are your values similar or are there problematic mismatches in your values ? Read Phil Zimbardo’s book The Time Paradox (simply written for a broad audience, yet filled with surprising insights about how and why both people and cultures differ). Many of the most critical differences between people are found in their Ethics… a very ethical guy and an unethical girl are not going to hit it off for long no matter how many superficial similarities exist between them. For the general reader, Chalmers Brothers book, Language and the Pursuit of Happiness is worth more than all the PUA manuals in existence…
Are there similar patterns of emotional development ? Many people have minor neurotic patterns and small but debilitating fixations, some have major issues, and a few are just plain crazy. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of general interest in Personality Theory… if you’re at the university level and you can get into a course on personality, do so without hesitation… because the average person does see the world through mild filters of one personality disorder or another, often very mild, nothing more than a slight coloration… but it very much helps to be able to pick up on the subtle signs of Passive-Agression, or Paranoia, or Histrionia, and better, to identify them in oneself and make adjustments when necessary… there are certain types out there like Bipolars who can be wonderful fun in one stage of the disorder and frankly psychotic in another… like the uninhibited girl who gets bombed and dances on the table and wows the guys, you take her home and she projectile vomits in your aquarium…
Robert A. Burton’s book On Being Certain (believing you are right even when you’re not) ought to be widely and carefully read, especially when you’re in that hormonal phase where everything about the opposite sex is based on profound, unexplainable intuitions… “Dude, I just KNOW she’s perfect for me!”… surprise, surprise, surprise… let me tell you about the most unbelievablest, blow your mind beautiful, stunningest girl I ever met when I was 23 who just happened, I later discovered, to have a psychopathic mafia casino owner for her father… not so great after all…
… buh bye !
