(Hi - I’ve been pretty quiet and haven’t posted much but this thread is too enticing not to post!)
Embarassing moment #1: (Ammo I think)
Grocery store line, very slow moving (everyone agonizing over the slow movement). Mother and son ahead of me, son heads off to get another item. All of the sudden, mom is like “Here, go ahead of me. I don’t mind. You’ve only got a few items. Please, go ahead.” I’m thinking to myself, “I have the same number of items” but finally I accept. Son returns and is like totally confused as to why mom let me go ahead.
Embarassing moment #2: (Alter Ego)
Airport layover in Colorado, I’m sitting waiting for my flight to board. Mom and two high school (17-18 yo) girls (daughter and friend). Looking for a seat to wait and eat their McDonald’s. Girls sit across from me, only real available nearby seat is next to me. Mom is like, “Lets not sit here, lets look for another spot.” (I’m thinking OD) But girls are like, “Lets just sit here, its fine.” 10 seconds later mom is talking to me non-stop, “Want some french fries? Here, have some fries. Eat some more fries.” She then goes on to tell me story of their trip to Mexico, her work, their home and LOTS of things, just chattering away non-stop and of course the fries (“have some more fries”). Eventually no one can get a word in and girls are starting to give each other (and me looks) like “what is up with her, whats going on here?” and I’m feeling very embarrassed. so finally (my plane had started boarding) and I’m like trying to be polite and excuse myself. Finally I’m able to get away (basically while she continued to chatter away). Anyways, the woman was genuinely nice (she kept giving me fries even though I didn’t really want them) and perhaps she just had a unique personality and maybe it wasn’t the pheros. But judging by the oddness of the situation (i.e. best friends in less than 10 seconds) and the looks of confusion from the girls, the pheros probably contributed to a degree. In retrospect it might have been interesting to have chatted even longer to see where things went but I was so embarrassed I didn’t know what to do except try to escape. I sincerely hope someone has since done something very kind (and perhaps slightly embarrasing) for her in return!
