I tried Instant Openness twice at my Local Gym.
I train at this Gym every morning from 8AM-9:45AM. My routine is simple and I see many of the same faces everyday. That being said:
Self-Effects:
I, personally, felt a little “lighter.” I can’t say I felt chipper or anything like that but I did feel a tad less “closed”.
Effects on Others:
If I told you I got no hits with I/O I’d be lying. I got a great deal of smiles, held elevators, "How are you today"s, and I even made a few men blush. But I already expected those (and wasn’t put-off by being approached by a few women). That’s what I/O’s supposed to do, right? What I found interesting though weren’t the glances and kind words from guys on the street, but more the reaction in a focused environment. How distracting could I really be? ![]()
Two men on the AMT (best cardio machine in the WORLD!) Surely they can’t be paying me too much attention: they’re working on their breathing.
- Man 1 seemed to be a bit discombobulated by my working out next to him. He remained focused on his workout BUT when he went to get the spray to clean off the AMT, he blushed a whole lot and ended up wiping down the WRONG MACHINE! Totally charming and sweet to watch his attempted coolness.
- Man 2 (on the other side of me…yeah, I hopped on the AMT in-between 2 men…I wanted results I could see! :o) began his workout after I did but shortly after he began, he amped his “Resistance” up to my Level and then worked at my pace (which was no easy task considering he had started on L3 to my L10). We were in-sync for the duration of my workout. Communicating without speaking at all?
I finished my Cardio and hopped on the weight circuit. Normal stuff. Where I bumped into
- Man 1 again. I walked past and when taking a break between reps on the LegPress, I noticed his face. He had the calmest, most serene look I’ve ever seen on the face of a Man in a Gym. Goo-goo-eyed and as Calm as a Hindu Cow. He looked at me briefly but then went back to staring off into space.
- and Man 3. He was struggling along with his selected weightstack. It was a lot of weight and you could tell by his clenched jaw and closed eyes that it was tough. After a few reps, his facial expression had changed. He became noticeably more relaxed. Calm, easy breathing and no strain in his face at all.
So, I guess I saw another aspect of Instant Openness: the Men around me might not have opened up to me (per se) but they DID open themselves up. I suppose the I/O pulled them out of their concentrated state. I guess the next step is using one more spray and seeing if the ConcentratingMen actually speak.
I’ll test it again tomorrow or Monday.
