Casey, artist with Asperger’s Syndrome, is a boy in his early teens. He lives in Vermont and is obsessed with politics and world leaders. Like many individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome, Casey’s obsession is on an unusually serious topic for a child. Here is Casey talking about the Kennedys…
…I Like the Kennedys.youtube.com . He inspired people the way Barack Obama does. JFK seems alive to me, but also very far away. That is why he is drawn in black and white. He is from the time when pictures were mostly black and white.
Robert Kennedy was very smart and worked for his brother as Attorney General. He quit when his brother was killed. But he couldn’t stop being a Kennedy, so he ran for president too. He was killed the same year as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. That was a bad year. I think he felt bad that his two older brothers were killed. He was trying to finish JFK’s work, but he didn’t get the chance. I think he looked surprised in that photo of him lying on the floor in his own blood. Maybe he was thinking, “How could this be happening to me? I need to finish my brother’s work.”
Teddy Kennedy was lucky and unlucky. Out of four brothers, he was the only one who lived. He had pressure to make the world better like his brothers wanted to do. But I think that it was hard for him. He was very handsome in a different way than his brothers. He was the baby of the family like me. I get angry when I hear people say they don’t think he was a good person. How would you be if your three older brothers and an older sister were killed? And one of your other sisters had brain damage? He had a hard life, but he still did everything he could to help regular people. We are very lucky he was a Senator for so long. In the end, he did a lot more good than his brothers because he lived the longest. I wonder how different the world would be today if JFK and Bobby were not killed.
