Another Morganton, North Carolina artist with a challenge is Brooks Yeomans. It does not say anywhere whether Brooks has Autism but has commonalities with people on the spectrum - given the fact that he has been described as “a man of few words and a thousand brush strokes” and has an exceptional memory.

It is interesting that it was his sisters that helped develop his talent at an early age, and this support work has been continued by the Singature Studio and the Enola Group…

…With an exceptional memory, Brooks recalls the details of not only significant days in his life, but the everyday activities that comprise the subject matter of his work.

Drawing in ball point or marker pens, Brooks creates “room views,” or “birds-eye” views of rooms populated with people participating in programs, parties or special events. As his daily experiences expanded, so too his “views” to include landscapes, arenas, and the interiors of concert halls. In one sense they are like photographs that document the events of Brooks’ life. In his desire to make sure that all the people, furniture and objects associated with an event are recorded, Brooks creates a panoramic view in which details are often rearranged. In most instances, Brooks draws himself as one of the participants. On occasion, he records himself making the drawing within the drawing…
