Ryan Smoluk is another individual whose work has been featured earlier this year as part of the United Nations Postal Administration launch of a series of postage stamps designed by artists diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Ryan, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has been greatly supported by his mother in his development as an artist…

…His mom, Marina, has been a wonderful advocate for Ryan, who has developed into a seasoned speaker on autism awareness issues. Marina is very involved in supporting Ryan’s art education and growth. Ryan is currently completing a Bachelor’s of Fine Art at the University of Manitoba.
Ryan had his first solo art exhibit at age age 11. At that time, Ryan says he was in his “black and white period.” All the art he created was in black and white. Ryan did not notice that he was painting in black and white only, until another artist asked him about it. Then he added blue to his colors, as “blue made me feel calm.” Ryan has had many accomplishments, including being selected by Toyota Canada for the “Never Quit Award.”…

The artwork by Ryan selected by the United Nations is entitled ‘The Path’, and has a theme that is fitting for the ideals of a world body like the UN:

Everyone has a path and journey in life. When I approached this piece at 15 years old I tried to express the need for people to walk with each other and share in each others journeys regardless of difference. The rainbow symbolizes the diversity of everyone’s path and yet the beauty that results when we all share in the same journey.
