yeah but that doesn’t mean professors are infallible - note he didn’t say “you make me really horny” just that he felt really horny. I’m not willing to just discount that she was telling the truth.
maybe he’s one of those jazzy youthful professors that thinks that’s how you connect with the young folks. I had a philosophy professor that made it very clear that a. he was a speed freak, and b. he had a major shoe fetish.
it was just matter of fact. plus once you have tenure, you can pretty much say any damn thing.
It’s a totally sackable offense here in Scotland, and if ONE of my lecturers was caught out, I would have him/her bounced out of our profession!
That is a blatant abuse of trust. Age is NOT A factor.
A student and lecturer can form a relationship, IF and when they still feel that way once the course is completed. Until then, the students regardless of whether they are 16 or 50, are under OUR jurisdiction and AS a UNIVERSITY Head of Department (yes of the department mentioned in my profile), I would seriously do EVERYTHING in my power to eliminate ANY individual who crossed that line. I could not care less WHAT gender we are discussing.
Yeah..let’s just ruin a few careers to accommodate some students with outsized crushes.
I have WATCHED this scenario unfold, and was put in the horrific position of not only having to sack someone who was a very good friend - but also to have to testify against him in court, so NO, it just should NOT happen. I KNEW he was the innocent party in the first place, but in the end he went too far, and he is paying for it as we speak.
He will NEVER be allowed to teach or lecture again in his lifetime, and for what? A roll in the hay for two weeks with a girl who turned the tables on him faster than you can say “Lolita was here..!”
A student fraternising with a lecturer/teacher/teaching assistant WHILE THE STUDENT IS UNDER THAT INDIVIDUAL’S TUTELAGE, must NEVER happen!

i know of NO place in the states its legal to make statements like that and to date within that arena.
atleast until that (student/teacher) relationship is over.
If the professor really said that then he ought to get fired, no matter what his idea is of building a connection with the student. This is an abuse of power. There are other, much superior ways to build a connection with students. He needs to learn those before he can be deemed qualified to hold that position.
If the student made that up and spreads the word around, the professor might end up getting fired for no fault of his. Some students need to be disciplined hard. Students who try to flirt to get good grades are very easy to spot and I suspect most professors know who they are even if they keep it to themselves. A little word of caution and no encouragement can go a long way in educating them.

the subject came up several times because i taught in an alternative highschool-
at risk students that were 18-19 years old.
so it was a subject discussed , not because it was happening, but because these were kids that,because of their background,did not feel it was inappropriate to proposition cute teachers such as i was at 27

That’s not the situation here. ToilofDay is in University. it is entriely possible that the college professor said somethng like that.
I’m not sure why Ail was so upset in an earlier post either - no one disagrees that it’s unethical. I’m just saying it’s not exactly unheard of, and it’s not illegal either (for COLLEGE professors and of age students).
NO… we are talking age of consent. the headline i linked talked about a highschool, but the information is about it being unlawful REGUARDLESS of AGE… i believe reguardless of age applies to ANY freaking school
