The financial crisis and the failure of CNBCs financial "experts"

hey guys, did you watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart about the failure of financial networks in informing people about the financial situation?

if you haven’t seen it - i think everybody should watch at least the first clip in this link - very funny:
Jon Stewart Continues His Smackdown on Market-Worshipping Jim Cramer and CNBC | Video | AlterNet

Also revealing is this interview with financial analyst Jim Cramer, he admits that they didn’t do their job right:

Stewart said he and Cramer are both snake-oil salesman, only “The Daily Show” is labeled as such. He claimed CNBC shirked its journalistic duty by believing corporate lies, rather than being an investigative “powerful tool of illumination.” And he alleged CNBC was ultimately in bed with the businesses it covered - that regular people’s stocks and 401Ks were “capitalizing on your adventure.”

For his part, Cramer disagreed with Stewart on a few points, but mostly acknowledged that he could have done a better job foreseeing the economic collapse. At one point, Cramer sounded the reformed sinner, responding to Stewart’s plea for more levelheaded, honest commentary.

Jim Cramer On “Daily Show”: Full Unedited, Uncensored Video

I think it’s an real eye-opener how media mislead people…

More? How about any just to begin with! And then could you really trust the liberal media to report anything other than what benefits them? I know I dont.

Stewart isn’t any better himself though. He gets paid through the same avenues that Jim Cramer does. Liars, all of them…

i am not saying you should trust the liberal media more…
and Stewart himself said - as i quoted above - that he and Cramer are both snake-oil salesman, only “The Daily Show” is labeled as such. Stewart has its own agenda but he does no harm to people by misleading them to invest their hard earned money like Cramer did…

The interview he did with Cramer (2nd link) is really impressive because Stewart confronts him with his own words where he says that you have to hype up things to make a quick buck and admits that CEOs lied to him and he didn’t have the guts to tell his audience the truth…

Please watch the interview and tell me what you think about it … its not funny at all but i think Stewart did a great job in confronting Cramer with his true attitude…

Now if you come to a pheromone forum for financial advice you need your head examined… but one can often gain inspiration for further research from people you encounter in life.

Tacitus sounded the warning here back in March 2007, making it pretty clear the magnitude of the events to come.

you miss the point… i am not looking for financial advice here on the forum…
i just wanted to share this stuff with you guys here… i think the interview is not great because of its insights but because Cramer gets confronted with the truth without any gentleness…

but thanks for the link… i personally know some brokers who shared their fears about a crash a few years ago… i even know some financial tv news reporters personally so the development didn’t take me by surprise and i have enough insights and advice from the source so i am the last one that needs financial advice from a pheromone forum … but really funny you even thought about it…

i agree with with you magnum, it was an outstanding interview that helps shed some light on the piss-poor job cnbc had done with their job. and without getting into too much of an argument, the “liberal media” comment is kinda confusing because both networks would technically be considered on the “liberal media” side of things so the purpose of goin after another liberal media source would technically be in neither’s self-interest so doesnt make too much sense. i mean yeah they dont really report on the “real” news like how, beer pong can cause herpes (the std, cant cure kind), cough cough fox news. which to be fair was made up by a college student just to see how far it would get in the media, fact checkers were really working overtime on that one.

once again, not trying to start an argument. just pointing “shenanigans” when i see em

Amen. Even Yahoo got in on the act the other day. I saw a story about how Obama was pulling the troops out of Iraq based on the timetable Bush and the Iraq government set up. A few hours later the story was down and in it’s place was an AP story leaving out the Bush part, making it sound like Obama had decided to pull out the troops. Not exactly a lie, but not exactly the truth.

What sells more advertising- AIG bonuses, death threats and class warfare or the real story behind the bonuses?

You’re twisting my words! The liberal media is all bad and thus will attack each other. Stewart is just as much of a fool as every one of his cohorts. When you have news media driven by commercialism you have the best lies to suit the greatest amount of people. Totalitarianism at its best.

which charm school did you attend, magnum?

Stewart plays a fine role as a jester… but really a major underlying problem is that the elites are happy to pander to the masses, and the masses remain oblivious to the falsehoods they are sold. If it looks good on TV, it’s real - we all have the attention span and focus of a flea with ADD. So Stewart is part of the problem, I am afraid.

Good for you that you knew some people vaguely connected to finance - I am impressed. But I doubt many explored the unfolding of this catastrophe with the same insight and sense of nuance as some posters on that thread. Stewart and tacitus - compare and contrast.
