I got this email too. Do you think anything will actually happen to the Internet in 1st world countries? I would imagine if they tried to censor the Internet in any way it would be the beginning of the collapse of the worldwide banking controlled government system.
Do you think it’s too late for them to try to censor the Internet? There’s too many ways to hack the system even if they tried you know? I don’t know…
…All I know is things are looking grim in the future with the way the world is ran today.
There already some censorship on the net. Multiple first world countries have introduced systems for the purpose of censoring child pornography. Those systems can also be used to censor other stuff.
Big corporations have no problem with operating in China. Having the same internet freedom in the US that exists in China wouldn’t collapse the banking system.
In 2010 there was some news that people within the CIA are interesting in outlawing encryption without government backdoors. The freedom to communicate via encryption is in danger in countries like the US.
If you start throwing people into jail for using crypto the way the Russian’s do at the moment, censoring the net should be pretty effective.
It’s just a question of political pressure. In the US and Europe we can hope that there are enough big corporations that value to communicate privately.
We just shouldn’t be to sure that we win that battle. It’s important that companies like Google lead that fight against new forms of internet censorship.
Internet censorship can take many forms.
At the moment everyone can basically write any IP address on the packages he sends to other people.
ISP and other internet companies don’t want to invest money to sign all packages that travel through the net to verify the source of the packages.
If you want to have a server that’s resistant to government take down it often makes sense to disguise the physical location of your server by letting the server that sends packages to the user fake his IP address.
The fact that you can disguise the location from which traffic originates makes it also harder to fight DDoS attacks.
One of the results of this meeting in Dubai could be to require that all IP packages get signed by the ISP that controls the IP address.
Internet censorship happened the day they went after DotCom in NZ with their paramilitary forces. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!
