I’m curious guy–a male living in New England. I am 54 years old.I work with a variety of clients as an energy therapist and muscle therapist. I am really curious about the “trust” pheremones as an aid in my work. Very often there is such an issue of fear/mistrust that it takes much longer to help the client to reach their level of repair/healing.
I would be interested to hear if any other therapists have found them to be effective in dealing with patients anxiety and long term pain sufferes mistrust associations with yet another attempt to fix a very old problem
You have to be careful here. I, too have worked as a body-centered energy therapist. And I think there are several factors you need to consider.
First, of course, is that you run the risk of FDA interference if you use pheromones to treat any medical/psychological conditions.
Second, is the problem of informed consent. If you are going to be using pheromones in a client/therapist treatment program, ethically you need to inform them of it and get their consent, especially since these are investigational.
Next is the client’s physical state. Fear/Anxiety, as a normal mode, is dysfunctional, and one the first things to target. But over time, stress hormones change the way the brain and body functions. So the response to pheromones may not be what you’d expect, or what you would see in someone without these underlying problems. For example, you might get dissociation and feelings of unreality in patients with long-standing, severe, anxiety/fear responses with some of the pheromones that would normally just make someone more social or relaxed.
I’m thinking of the the same response you would get in someone with a severely underenergized or blocked lower chakra, if you suddenly released that blockage and energized it without preparation of the supporting energy channels, and without also working with the other major centers from the heart down.
Now, I’m not saying this will definitely occur, but it is possible. So, I strongly advise caution.
In my opinion, if you decide to use pheromones as an adjunct to your normal therapeutic modalities, it is better to begin unwinding any really dysfunctional underlying processes before introducing pheromones, or even bringing up a discussion about them.
Do you find yourself reacting with an anxiety response when you are with a client/patient with anxiety and fear problems? If so, some of the relaxing pheromones might do you a favor in keeping your own base line serene and low, so that you can more effectively work with the client’s issues.
Do you use touch as part of your therapeutic technique? If so, and your baseline is serene, then warm, static touch over time can do much to relieve stress/anxiety and tension enough to begin changing the client/patient’s base line to more normal. If the client’s anxiety level is so high that touch is not possible, there are techniques that you can learn and use to speak directly to the body, inducing states of calm. Using those speaking techniques, you can go at the problem from the other side, and explore with the client what purpose the anxiety/fear serves. If the client can serve that purpose in a more functional way, and can connect in the body to that function, the anxiety/fear can be more easily uprooted.
I worked mainly with clients/patients with anxiety issues, but also with severe dissociatives (even Dissociative Identity Disorder) - the other side of the same coin. I also worked with clients with inflammatory and pain issues, clients with isolation issues, clients with reality testing problems, clients with inappropriate guilt, etc.
Feel free to PM me if you want to compare/contrast techniques and discuss anything with me.
