Hi there,
One more post about constipation during pregnancy… which is happening to my girlfriend.
I’ ve just read a site about an surgical operation (which we don’t want because of pregnancy) talking about Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide.
Apart from Wikipedia (not always a good reference), has anyone heard of it ?
As well, does anyone know anything or any pheromones that could help ? TAC ?
Thanks,
Have you tried the good old natural (& gentle) remedies? Pregnancy isn’t really the time to start experimenting…
Increase fluid intake, eat figs & dates…they work well. Or natural stool softeners like low dose senna
I’m with xiphoid on the pheros a woman is less likely to have predictable reactions to any external stimuli during pregnancy.
I’d avoid senna during pregnancy its actually generally not recommended because it is fairly strong and can sometimes cause uterine contractions.
Apple juice if she can stand it increasing fiber intake and fruit intake in general.Oatmeal is a good source of fiber.Things like oatmeal raisin cookies and foods like celery and apples are good too.Apple juice has naturally laxative effects for a lot of people. If shes drinking whole milk atm you may try switching to 2% or skim milk. Also depending n how far along she is and her comfort level gentle tummy rubs and back rubs may help.Almost any fruit shes fond of EXCEPT bananas is likely to help.So spoil her with fruit if she likes it.Choc covered strawberries ectra. The dan active yogurt might help as well just a thought.
Some people have a reaction to the iron in prenatal vitamins which can make the issue worse. There are several b-100 complexes available through walgreens kroger and ectra that may provide a reasonable alternative to a prenatal vitamin w proper supplementation and diet.
Last but not least listen to her if she craves something chances are either she or the baby needs it.First 3 trimesters fatty/sugary cravings are normal because the babys brain is developing.
If she starts craving non food items its pica and she should call her obgyn.
Chalk is generally calcium deficency dirt is a mineral deficency ectra.
If she is lactose intolerant rice milk, oat milk and almond milk are good alternatives.
Also there is always metamucil ect they have fiber pills and cookies now too its not just the chalky pfeh ick! drink anymore.
Quaker breakfast bars are also pretty spiff for those random omg I’m starving cravings at least they were for me.
I hope some of this helps every woman does her own thing with this though so what helped me may not help her.
