What mix in your opinion is the best to create an aura of presence to make you more important?
For example, when you walk into the lobby and the receptionist is on the phone, she’ll put the phone on hold to talk to you, instead of putting you on hold to talk on the phone?
Or when you start to speak, everyone will shut up and listen intentively to what you say?
Oceahborn, you have to be a little more specific about how much you are using and where you’re applying. If you are using 1 or 2 drops, try 3 or 4, also try applying where you can smell it. A314 is a product to also affect YOU and your confidence. If you haven’t experienced self-benefits of A314, you need to up the dosage and apply to upper lip. You will know what I am talking about once you feel it.
Also, you can try mixing A314 with 2-3 shots of Ammo, and see how that changes things.
Confidence, and willing to be different. “Col.” Sanders was owner of which which a small time gas station owner which sold fried chicken, but when he wore his white suit,he stood out. Maybe he needed his cain, maybe not, but it added garnish to his image.
A314, p79, a touch of -none, and p83, seem like candidates for an attention mix. A little Shine might hold it. P74 might be a good support. There are probably others.
what DST said. body language and gait important. open, vulnerable posture. swing arms with opposite leg. no unnecessary or fast movements - the joke is that even when you blink you should do it slowly.
oh - and the big one… vocal quality - resonance, micro tonality, volume. if this is right and you go into starbucks to order a coffee, heads should turn. need to release tension in shoulders and pelvis, free spasms around the ribs etc.
I’ll echo the vocal quality / resonance dynamic as turning heads – you’re doing it right when people spontaneously tell you that you should do radio commercials.
Breath control is important, but there’s another thing you can do besides relax your frame so your voice ‘wells up’ from your body … you need just enough tension for the sound to resonate. You can practice purring like a cat – a lion, perhaps – to get the planar tension of your chest and face at just the right level. The purring should gently massage both your chest cavity, and in your cheeks/forehead.
Then take it to the next level … imagine a string that connects your “third eye” and your sex via neck and spine … with just enough tension that the string vibrates when you use your voice. When you “talk with your balls” – when you can feel the vibration in your genitals, your voice is not only a “voice of command” but it also develops a textured tonal sensuality that creates attraction as well as respect. There’s no doubt in my mind that Obi-Wan was talking with his balls at the same time he did the Jedi Mind Trick…
BTW, I don’t know if posture has to be “vulnerable” but, if you are perfectly balanced and grounded, then your posture is “no where defensive”. Maybe I am splitting hairs between vulnerable and non-defensive – but to my mind, physical posture is vulnerable wherever it is defensive …
Is there any DVD or program you guys (or anyone else) can recommend for improving the voice and making it sound more ‘sexy’. I am thinking a DVD as I am not great at following instructions from books, etc. Also getting a professional voice coach, while likely to be most effective, is kinda expensive…
Yeah, I see young men attempting such posturing in my classes–especially during group performance projects–and have to tell them to knock it off. Instead of looking alpha the slow movements, legs wide spread seating and unnatural deep voice at the least make them look insecure (a poser) and at the worse threatening, damaging the group dynamic. Expressive and purposeful verbal interaction is far more commanding of attention and respect. Shucks, it even works for wheelchair bound guys with high tenor voices. Oddly, high male tenor voices are in high demand in popular music styles, not bass or baritone…
Oh yes, so true, good point Gegogi – and perhaps one visit to a voice coach to find your natural register is worth it because the alternative can seem quite cartoonish – the tiny worm with the deep crooner bass voice was a prominent Bugs Bunny / Warner Bros. theme.
Unless, of course, you want your voice itself to be a caricature, as a basso buffo – a form of peacocking, I guess.
When MHarris was awarding Christmas presents, one of them was a voice course – a multiple CD training program by Roger Love titled “Vocal Power”.
An afterthought. A poseur is “One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others.”
There is nothing wrong with impressing or influencing others. (I know I make impressions whether I make a conscious effort to determine the form of the impression or not; and except for hermits, we all live by influencing others.)
There is nothing wrong with affecting a particular attribute, attitude, or identity. (When I am not feeling spontaneously cheerful but I meet a new person, I may, for example, deliberately make my speech pattern more upbeat. I find this investment of emotion rewarding overall; it’s not a matter of being fake: the tone and language of optimism comes naturally, but it ~is~ circumstantial and self-evoked *.)
What’s wrong is affecting such attribute, attitude, or identity in a clumsy or inelegant manner. If you’re going to be a poseur … be a good one.
There is an old saying about putting on a false front: “The lies we tell about ourselves reveal, at the deepest levels, the person we would like to become.”*
