Honestly, everyone here has a story about how they ended up reading about pheromones at 2am. What was yours? Was there a moment, a person or an article that got you curious, and how did you find your way to this forum? Whether you joined years ago or last week, Iād love to hear it.
I was watching Discovery Channel (my former employer) at the broadcast center and came across a discussion of the importance of chemical communication natural world. Given that communication technology is my career path, naturally I wanted to learn as much as possible about this mode of communication which was entirely missing from my academic studies. A particular angle that amused me: most forms of communication have been digitized, with increasingly mobile electronic layers separating us behind screens, moderated by increasingly sophisticated algorithm - Life experienced behind the glass darkly. But chemical communication demands physical proximity, live performance, and attention to subtle social nuances with real-world consequences. Anything with roots in the physical experience of life, which puts the person at some degree of friction with reality, is bound to be a more psychologically helpful mode of communication, particularly at scale. As a student of mass-communication, I am aware that the means of communication becomes itself a defining factor in how meaning is created/interpreted (the medium is the message).
