If someone asks you what the lovely smell is that you wear or why you are smelling so good … and you don’t want to tell him or her… what do you answer?
What cologne is close to 1. Ammo, 2. Neroli based stuff and 3. A314?
Or should one just say that it’s a secret formula? Maybe even a custom-made cologne from a perfumer?
Depending on who and where, I typically make something up-
Hugmeplease (yes all run together)
someone sprayed me with something when I walked through the menswear department, I forget what.
I peeled the labels off my Androtics bottles and wrote a designator letter on the bottom with a sharpie, so if someone is snooping in my cabinet they have no idea what they are looking at, other than several cobalt blue bottles with F, A, H, T, O, M on the bottom. (everyone snoops in bathrooms and medicine cabinets, I have been taking labels off cologne bottles for years.
friends, family or people I am around regularly, it’s "I’m sorry I didn’t have time to shower after working out this morning."sniffs armpit “Is it really that bad?”
“I’m an amateur perfumer and mix my own. Want to be my first customer?”
And … I’ve gotten “Sure, what do you call that?” or “I’d buy that!” a few times as a response. I answer that I’m not marketing the mix so I don’t have a name for it, and that I indulge myself with fairly rare and expensive ingredients, so they might experience sticker shock.
If asked to be specific, I would estimate enough more than the source price tag to cover S&H and the cost of a repackage bottle. (So I’d be asking $60 or so for 1 oz of Ammo.)
But I’ve never had anyone pursue it that far, because I divert the conversation to questions about what they liked or found interesting about the scent … get them to describe their experience. That opens the conversation to more productive topics …
