I have seen parcels of mine shipped between DHL hubs over the weekend but once they cross the Atlantic, they do sit till Monday Morning before they get shipped out for delivery.
Your question seems to be answered pretty well already, but I’ll chip in as well.
From my personal experiences, there’s no weekend delivery in Finland. There are some companies that might do shipping by weekends, but the cost is very high! Our regular post services in Finland operate on weekdays.
I’ve ordered different things from UK, USA and so on. So far the packages from Japan have reached my home the fastest, that was three years ago though.
To summarize, I think weekend deliveries (in Europe, at least in Finland) are pretty much non-existent unless you pay really high price for it. mobocaster mentioned about a local/regional point in UK, that is possible.
I think it all adds to how big the business is. If you live in a city, with lots of packages etc., going around, you might get your delivery sooner, than to say if you live in the countryside. (Like I do for now.)
In the future, I do my best to place my order by weekend or Monday, so when they ship, they can possibly arrive during the weekdays. But, I do enjoy the idea that there is something coming my way, although the wait is sometimes painful!
DHL use a lot of contract drivers for delivery here and that may contribute to the Saturday service - Also the oil biz in this part of Scotland is by far the main client for international shipping and they tend to work 24/7.
In fact, Sport Girl’s new man is a DHL contract courier and it has kind of perversely amused me that he has delivered pheros to me that later helped to trigger some of the grief she’s given him when I’m around.
matters on the region. for example when I lived in Canada, carriers do NOT work on weekend, however, in china they do, my package got sent from HK to Beijing on Sunday. The chinese work every day lol.
