First-up, suffering from depression does not mean you will suffer any ill-effects from A1 itself. This is a very specific reaction to the phero itself and is almost always sorted by carefully washing/cleaning the app point. Also IME it is more of a go-of the downers rather than full-on clinical depression. So for that reason, if you do suffer, it is a good idea to keep you A1 points apart from any other pheros so they can be washed if needed. This also holds true if it turns to stink - which it can do easily, esp if you are going in and out of cold/hot environments.
There are other tactics to using A1 that can help - For me, wearing it a a low dose for a few weeks, then washing the app point when the downers began hit, helped condition myself to its effects and I still give it a periodic maintenance outing to keep things good.
A1 in oil is also slower diffusing and easier to manage - for years now I’ve been mixing my A1 in oils for just this reason. Also the crusty/fallout properties of A1 do suit the sort of slow 'n subtle diffusion of oils. If you want the fast-hitting comfort/moderation aspects of A1 then a spray is probably the better option.
Also remember that A1 is often grossly overused in mixes and will still give you good results at far lower doses - So you may well find you need far less of it than you think. Wearing it standalone has got me good hits from as low @6mcg and even in a balls-out mix, I rarely need to dose much about 30mcg. This makes it much easier to use effectively and you don’t run the risk of A1 flattening-out/being in over proportion to other mones in a mix, which again is a common thing.
You can also reduce the effects short term by using something like IS but you need to factor-in topups and if you suffer from the IS-crash, getting that on top of the A1 downers is no-fun at all! Similarly, the non-AD product NAG has also proved very effective at managing A1 ill-effects for me in the last year. Almost eliminated them and with very good fallout effects but you can discuss that elsewhere.
If you do want alternatives, then yes A314 oil is something you need to get to grips with as it is an integral part of many base combinations and can be an effective fallout primary all by itself.
Personally I have found the following base mixes effective at different times, around different women and in different environments:
A314/IH/P74 - Probably the nearest to A1 in terms of fallout/emotional engagement but it does need to be worked in a more definite romantic/sexual manner. Keep the P74 below 30mcg in the mix as above that it can get too “best friendly” or enter the realm of good professional mixes.
A314/IS, A314/IH and A314/IH/IS - Good entry-level fallout bases and very widely usable.
A314/P96 - Interesting one, not quite as widely usable but very effective indeed on a significant subset of women.
A314/P114 - Again, not as widely usable but useful around the sort of women who like their man to really take charge…!
A314/P97 - Again quite limited but in conjunction with an overt sexual A314/P97 can be good for those into more extreme things - its a sort of “dark sexual”/obsession type mix.
Non-A314 fallout bases with good traction include:
IH/IS
IH/P74
These last three look very promising but have been poorly tested so far:
P96/IG
P81/P89
P84
Although I remain entirely unconvinced about it as a primary, P83 is also a very valuable secondary around fallout mixes - esp once a fallout is beginning to settle-in. Introducing P83 disinhibition at that stage in the right environments can help a very great deal in getting a developing fallout out in the open.
Similarly Meo-Est is a very useful comfort/establishing secondary but that seems to be off the menu with AD for now and it was not without its potential problems for a significant number of guys.
