BTW at that salary, you will need excellent social skills and the ability to make friends- and the “annoying old dry bitchy women” will HAVE to like you or at least stand you. If you have been around enough to play corporate games you know that hr/clerical staff/reception/bills and data entry/ or just about any one at work, can totally cause you to look like a clown if they want to. Factions fight for power and the game is to set traps. So I suggest you rethink a bit because you need everyone to like you, and many people can tell if you think of them as annoying/dry/old bitchy, …they can read it on your face. …so think about them with respect, and value their skills instead of how they look. It is not about how high you test out any more, now it is all about social skills and understanding the game.
Another suggestion if you get the job-get an assistant who is bright and capable and loyal, and often older is better because they know the game and have mad skills. So if you are the only one with an assistant who is quirky, or has a unibrow, but is insanely capable, great! All the better. If you are lucky you will have the ability to pick one, give it some time before you do. try a temp.
LOVE your assistant and treat them like gold, cherish reception person and treat everyone with highest respect, and give everyone, including cleaning staff, great bonus tips for holidays.
Loyalty and ability is everything, not what people look like. Believe me. Engineering at that level is MUCH more about the social, you can be an excellent egineer but will go no where with an attitude, just level off and never know why.Take advice, kiddo. I know well what I speak of. People may interprete your behavior as arrogant- even if you do not mean to give that impression. Even if you are not, and are simply bright, it is easy to give the impression that you are arrogant by mistake. And if you actually are arrogant, they will chew you up and spit you out, and that is if they like you, if they dont like you, then… Ouch… Seriously, I wish you well and good luck.
