A314: 3 Days of Work Training and Meetings GALORE

Over the past couple months at work I have had meetings galore. Some with Management, some with engineers, some job specific, and some on the “team” level. I also tend to approach and talk to my Supervisor about more important things while wearing A314 not as an effect persay. I just want the benefit of him actually LISTENING TO ME. After just completing a 3 day training session full of A314 I have some observations and thoughts I would like to share.

I’ll start with a meeting with the “focus factory manager” basically the guy in charge of 1 of the 2 areas in this factory. He is implementing some changes that effect a specific group of employees(me included) Every person in this meeting was just excepting what this guy was saying. He was asking for input and feedback like it even really mattered. People were worried about their jobs more than the effectiveness of what he is planning on implementing. I finally decide to give my two cents. I simply said " I understand that at this point no one is losing their job, but in essence what you are doing is creating more responsibility. I currently am working under the conditions you are thinking of implementing company wide and feel my responsibilities don’t match with my paycheck. I should be paid more due to the added responsibility." as i sit back in my chair, hands resting on the back of my kneck, elbows out, one foot resting on my knee.“You are creating a bigger, more stressful workload and I think you should pay ALL of us accordingly.” he responded by saying me and my supervisor are gonna be fired half jokingly. I definitely caught him off gaurd as he stumbled over his words searching for more to say. I became ALPHA to every other person in that room in my position. I don’t have the most experience, but from comments and thanks to slaps on the back I have become the ALPHA person at my position on ALL shifts if that makes sense. People respect me not for my knowledge, but for how I acted in this meeting.

Had another meeting with some engineers and the same manager above. This actually happened before the above. The meeting was going very poorly the two guys on the employee end that were in charge comlpetely dropped the ball. One prepared nothing and the other was so intimidated it was awkward. After the awkward guy took up 3/4 of the meeting stumbling over hsi words and repeating his comments/questions over and over it was the other guys turn and he said 1 thing and that was it. The 2nd guy then looks at me and asks me if I had anything to say. I did because what he was supposed to address he didn’t. I addressed all those issues and then some. I got in a one on one discussion with the engineer for our area in a room full of people. Back and forth question from me answer from him. SAME question from me and an actual answer for him. I hate that sometimes people just expect you to accept their answer even though it didn’t answer your question. At one point I asked a question and got a response that wasn’t even on topic. So I asked it again. Got an answer this time with an apology. By the end of this I could sense a change in his demeanor towords me and as engineers sometimes do went on a long tangent explaining how smart he is. This meeting ended up lasting an hour too long as this guy just continued to talk. In this meeting with my co-workers I feel my alphaness was set in stone. After sitting through the two supposed leaders just ridiculous handling of this meeting and then how I took it over for awhile. I have no doubt about my ALPHA status as it pertains to the people on my shift.

The 3rd story is the most recent being the 3 day training session. I found these 3 days very interesting. I was wearing 3 drops A314 all 3 days with 3 sprays IO/IS. Everything revolved around me. When we took breaks, when we left the room, what we talked about. I definitely was directing this training session. The trainer was constantly engaging me. I often had to re-peat questions from others for them to actually get thier question answered. The people working on days throughout the factory( I work nights) were like who the f is this guy and constantly got DHL looks and tons of smiles. Mostly women in this factory by the way. I honestly felt incredible these last 3 days.

MAN DO I LOVE A314! ! ! ! !

Just be careful because and ALPHA status in the eyes of someone in charge (especially if they themselves are beta) can be seen as quarrelsome, intimidating and trouble maker. Not because it is, but because you are directly challenging their superiority in front of subordinates. The easiest way to handle that person, especially the new guy (low man on the totem) is to eliminate that position completely. In today’s economy you are expected to give of yourself completely and fully, even if that means you are working virtually for free, while the company sits back, collects the money and then tells you we don’t have enough to give you a raise, we are, in fact, lowering your pay and adding more hours to your workload. The only loyalty companies have is to their coffers. Sad but very true.

Good that you are standing up and seen as the ALPHA by other employees. Again just make sure you are seen as a solution type of person to the bosses rather than a problem person with no solutions.

Nice report

I totally get what your saying and agree wholeheartedly. I didn’t write about so much what has happened outside the meetings due to length it would have created to my report/story. I have made suggestions and feel I have the solution this guy needs. It however doesn’t fit as well into the “team” atmosphere around this place. There is a good chance this guy may loose his job if he implements his plan due to the sheer cost of it. Either way I feel I am also a solution type person in this guys eyes from unreported meetings we have had together. One suggestion I did give was so technical that I felt he and the engineer were impressed. Usually people don’t put that much thought into this type of meeting. They just “do it” because it’s required to make suggestions to improve the workplace or productivity.

I am worried about exactly what you say. I have placed a target on my back. No matter how good of an employee you are if someone above you feels threatened it’s not a good thing for job security. Good thing I never thought my job was secure in the first place due to the economy and the bullshit I went through at my last employer.

Amen to than man, its like we’re workin at the same place haha..I feel the same way now after what happened with my last one..I think the fact that I value the employment, but have a a sort of aloofness makes them feel like that. Like you cant threaten me with taking it away, because it was never secure in the 1st place. So I can do my job and be confident in it w/o the stress other ppl have.

That make sense?

Yeah… I think a lot of employers these days like to “threaten” their employees with things like…JUST BE THANKFUL YOU HAVE A JOB and other similar statements. I also think employers are lowering wages because of the economy, but also because THEY can for that above reason as investors and CEO’s get fatter paychecks…

JUST BE THANKFUL YOU HAVE A JOB!
I say “F” you and your job crappy employers…Is Wal-Mart hiring!!!:stuck_out_tongue: I can find work and don’t like being treated like I’m your B#TCH… Thats how I feel these days.

My current employer is OK for now until I reach the advancement plateau then on to the next employer.
