My last post mentioned HeartShare Human Services of New York . This is a nonprofit human services agency dedicated to improving the lives of people in need of special services and support, including individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Each year, the organisation hosts a gallery art show featuring artwork created by children and adults with various developmental disabilities…
…[2010’s] exhibit features more than 50 pieces which include paintings, mixed media pieces, masks, and photography by more than 35 artists. This year’s artists attend a HeartShare day program or live in a group home or apartment. Three students from HeartShare’s preschools are also featured. They were all provided different mediums–watercolors, pencils, markers, acrylics, mixed media, clay, masks, photography, and more. They were encouraged to express their unique artistic viewpoint of the world around them, as well as explore their feelings, hopes and fears.
All of the artwork will be available for purchase. [In 2009,] ArtShare for HeartShare presented over 45 pieces of artwork representing more than 30 artists. The exhibition sold 16 pieces which was a record for the gallery for number of artworks sold in a single show. HeartShare is hoping to top its own record this year…
