Gegogi is right. It is apples and oranges.
Love Scent is a retailer, and a fine one at that. It’s not hard to argue they’re still the best (most honest/kindest) pheromone retailer out there.
While we do our best to be good mail order retailers, it was an awkward step for us. We’re more of a manufacturer that works closely with chemists (and one AMAZING one!) We sell academic quality product that you can do research with quite easily. Since we sell “direct”, our prices often for less than our chemist charges academic institutions.
We started our own store for two main reasons. First, the mostly sex related orientation of most of the industry. We wanted to see what pheromones REALLY did, first and foremost. Second, because we could find anyone to carry out ExperiMone line, the first dosed research grade chemicals on the market that allowed you to mix on your skin instead of in a bottle. Dosing and on-skin mixing were large break throughs at the time, that for some reason, no other companies thought to do.
There were 2 retailers we worked with when we started out, and a third that was an option. The problem was that retailers needed a markup that wouldn’t work with the type of project we wanted to launch. We wanted open up mass experimentation, introduce new molecules, and ultimately push pheromone technology forward.
To accomplish that, we went “direct” with all of the prequisite growing pains of doing things we really didn’t know how to do (like running a cart, shipping, etc!) It’s honestly hard to create product, run a forum, and ship quickly and accurately with decent customer service. I think the only thing that eventually made us succeed was our honest interest in actually helping people. We tried our best to treat people like we’re like to be treated, and used stores like Trader Joe’s and Zappos as models. (and Apple for innovation, but not customer service)
Long term, we’ll keep our guerilla research group (this forum) but go go full circle sales wise, and sell to retailers again. We can’t do it now with the types of chemicals we use for research purposes, but we should be able to do it one day if we can weather the storm of current economic factors. What we do here became drastically more difficult the moment Bank of America and Chase cut our credit lines, despite our perfect payment record and excellent credit. Right now, we’re a research direct company in “emergency” mode more than growth mode, but we hope to change that.
I agree that two of the best products you’ll find at Love Scent are The Edge from LaCroy and Scent of Eros from James Kohl. They also carried George Dodd’s pheromone products for awhile. He was one of the early genius’ in early pheromone technology, and someone we still admire.
