I was thinking of going to bartending school and whatnot to be a barkeep but I’m wondering does anyone who already does that have any input that might be helpful? especially LA\socal based ideas/info.

I’m a bartender and I do recommend you go to a bartending school, I think it cost me about $600 and it’s about 2 weeks and 40 hours total. You will learn about every liquor, beer, name of drinks, and the recipes. You want to be a barkeep? Fuck that! You go to bartending school to be a bartender. After graduating, you get a certificate, a TABC license, and a job listing of places that are hiring for bartendings. Since you’re a female, you’re more likely to get hired quicker than a male because you have long hair and boobs.
Bartending is very fun, I chose night clubs because I like a high volume environment with lots of energy and I focused mostly on club drinks while in bartending school. I got lucky after graduation and got to work in a night club with no experience because I knew the manager. There’s many places you can work at like restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs, weddings, parties, baby showers (yes I bartended at my sister’s baby shower). You get to meet all kinds of people while bartending, you will get hit on a lot which is good for your ego and it makes the job more fun.
As for bartending school, it was really fun for me because my instructors were hilarious and you get to meet other students. They teach you how to pour and count, when you get good, you’ll just “eyeball”. I was taught over 100 drink recipes and I have them hard-wired into my brain because of the way the instructors taught me. Bartending is very fun and you should go to school for it.
