Help me out! Need some general advice from all you dating guru's out there

Okay. Just finished going to the bars tonight. Once again, I failed miserably. I sorta know the reason why (in the back of my head) but I still need someone else to tell it to me. I want to get this settled out before I try on the pheromones, which should be arriving next week (VERY EXCITED!)

Even though I stated this in my introductory post, I should probably give you guys an idea of my history, since its very important to my questions.

I was very anti social in high school. In fact, I kept completely to myself. I was extremely shy. I had never gotten into a sexual situation in HS. Through these last 3 years of college, I have changed from being a complete anti social introvert to a relatively social-loving person. I found a group of guys that I can relate to, and that I feel comfortable in. As the years went on however, I grew…and I felt that I have grown to the point in which I am much more socially adept than they are. The group of friends that I am with are reflections of my former self - socially awkward, not good with women. I found I ostracized myself, for the simple fact that our interests simply do not meet. I dont enjoy hanging out with them anymore because all they do is sit around, smoke weed, and have boring conversations about life. I want to go out and meet people, and flirt with girls. In fact, I found myself looking at some PUA which I find some people using some terminology here on the forums

This is a problem, because I ask people how they met their boyfriend/girlfriend, and alot of the times they say they meet him/her through a friend. But I dont have that luxury. My friends NEVER EVER meet anyone new!!!

In the last 3 months I have experienced more hook ups with women in my ENTIRE LIFE. In fact, the experiences that I have had this year have been so radical to me, I feel as if I had woken up from a deep sleep. A very deep sleep.

But I am still frustrated. Most of the hookups I have had were with mediocre looking women, women I wasnt very attracted to and mostly did it for the experience. I find I excel at talking up people in low key environments, like small house parties. But these small house parties are few and far between, the majority of people here go to bars and large banger parties. But I dont know what to do when walking into bars. I go into a bar, and find myself intimidated by the loud music and all the people talking. Alot of the times, the bars at my college are very crowded, full of people. Its hard to talk to anyone, because the music is so loud. And I havent the slightest clue of what to do. I feel weird grinding up against girls that I just meet. I’m afraid of looking like a creeper being forward. Am I alone here? What am I doing wrong?

What is so appealing about bars? I cant share a good conversation in there with fun flirtations that I can do at small house parties. Really, I’d like to know. How do you meet girls? My “friends” cant help me. They never bother to meet new people. I find myself in a rut. Talking to girls in day to day activities is difficult, let alone flirting with them. The ironic thing is, Ive been told I’m not bad looking, hell, some girls say I’m cute.

How can I turn my life around? Please, help me. I want to experience what other guys experience with girls; flirting with girls they find attractive, dating them, etc. But I have never had a girlfriend yet, and I only have another year here (I’m staying a 5th) before I leave, and I want to turn my life around so I can say that I finally really enjoyed college. Because right now, I’m not. I’m simply frustrated as hell, and not just sexually.

No wonder why my avatar is a caged lion, because thats exactly how I feel right now.

You seem like you’re definitely on the right path. I’m a little younger than you but in a somewhat, and by somewhat I mean very, similar situation at college so will offer what I think is good advice.

First, you need confidence at bars. Remember, this is mostly body language stuff. Confidence comes across in body language. Being friends with the DJ or bouncer goes a long way. Smile while not looking to conceited or silly. Don’t rush. You have the whole night, or until you get bored and are ready to leave. Find a girl you like, not that you will settle for. Approach her with your confident swagger, smiling without looking like a fool or crazy, say some things that are somewhat normal and interesting but not weird, and things should go smoothly. Don’t blatantly hit on her unless you read signs to. Get to know her as a person. Imagine you are a girl sitting at a bar. Every guy is pulling lines to get with you. No one cares about you (the girl). Did it ever occur to the guys that besides a one night stand, which could be just what she wants, she could also want some genuine conversation.

“But I **dont know what to do when walking into bars. I go into a bar, and find myself intimidated by the loud music and all the people talking. Alot of the times, the bars at my college are very crowded, full of people. Its hard to talk to anyone, because the music is so loud. And I havent the slightest clue of what to do. I feel weird grinding up **against girls that I just meet. I’m afraid of looking like a creeper being forward. Am I alone here? What am I doing wrong?”

Also, just from the above quote, you’re looking at all the negatives. Rather than viewing the loud music as a bad thing, maybe it’s a girl’s favorite song. Do you see that girl uncontrollably bobbing her head to the song while that wack guy is hitting on her, walk up and talk to her about the song without being an asshole to the guy.

You see those people talking? Good, they’ve already started talking. Maybe join in if it seems appropriate. Practice makes perfect. You will find not only what works for you but also what you enjoy doing.

You will look like a creeper if you half-assingly walk up to a girl, put your hands on her hips, look around the room 5 times, then start grinding on her with a crooked smile. You look like a confident, cool guys if you walk up to her, smile, ask if she wants to dance (or don’t ask, there are two different schools of thought there which I’m not going to get into) and then have fun for you while respecting her.

I mean, you’re at bars to have a good time. Why would you pay money to have a shitty time? You wouldn’t, so have fun, see if anything happens with a girl without stressing yourself out, and see how everything works out.

Once I was in this bar with collegues from my university. We had good time - met some girls and bringed them to our table. And then the problems started. One of the girls got envy of the girl I was picking up and because she obviously liked me and I paied attantion to the other chick - she called the boyfriend of the girl I was picking up who came drunk as pig and wanted to fight with me.It’s was o.k. by me but a fight inside would make the bouncers to beet all of us - never mind who started the fight - and they were WWF champions sort of big guys.So I just pushed him to sit quiet but he feel of the chair and we all had to leave as not to have any further problems.Afcourse - the planned ONS didn’t happen and we were just about talking going to this girl’s student dormitory…So it’s kind of complicated to meet total stranger in bars and to try to hook up with that girls.

It’s good to build up a social network around the campus and then be accepted in many companies and being askt to a bar with them. The best way is to talk to people in classes, social groups, hobby circles ext. - just talk, make them open to you and they will be willing to be your friends.I highly recomend you the book “How to make friends and influence people” by Dale Karnegie - this is the ultimate manual for making alot of friends witch will open you alot of doors even with meeting new girls.Trust me this is The Book.

You are i college so why not join a student organisation and get active in it? You can make two or three new friends, and when you start working you will make a few more. Your HS circle sounds like a negative crowd, with the potsmoking and all and you are young enough to make friends easily.

I changed friends several times. In HS I was not the same person I am now, even at 20 I was very different than I am today. I went from quiet, invisible kid, to loud, socially clueless preteen, to badass teen, distanced late teen, funny and adventurous early twenties, calm empathic conservative mid twenties, to my current self that integrates all these things and more. Just accept that not everyone is going to be compatible with you in the long run.
But do cherish the people who are. There is something about being with someone who knew you from way back.

this thread is very relevant to my situation.

Throughout my two years at college, I’ve tried to make friends everywhere. At frat parties, house parties, classes, art clubs, business clubs, dorm, and more.

What I’ve learned is you can make friends anywhere, and some cttm2 doesnt hurt either .

The key is to put yourself in situations you want to be in. People will follow. If you go to frat parties you are going to meet other people who go to frat parties. If you join a painting art club, you are going to meet people who love painting. Do you want to hangout with people who love drinking beer and having fun that way. Or do you want to meet people who like painting?

I’m not saying these groups are mutually exclusive, they’re not. Some frat bros may paint. Some painters may be bros, So find the situation you feel most comftorable with, where your personality comes out, and then enjoy it.

It doesnt sound like you like clubs. I don’t like clubs much. So stay away from clubs for awhile and see how it goes. Some people have given good advice on where specifically to look; I’d defintely look into that.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give you came from Brad P @ Adonis Effect.

No agendas, no anything. Just go out and start talking to people (both guys and girls). Have confidence in yourself and just project that and people will respond.

After some time you’ll feel confident and comfortable in any situation that you can open just about anyone. This will go a long way for you in the overall scheme of things.

I just want to add a couple things. First, a smile goes a hell of a long way. Think that’s in how to win friends and influence people, I also recommend you checking that out, I think someone already suggested it. In the meantime, read this list, I think I might post it in the pheromone section so more people read it. It’s invaluable.

the common theme between nearly all humans other than masochists is that they like to be treated the same way, to be treated well. being nice is useful in making friends.

also, at parties, most guys forget girls’ names almost immediately. simply asking their name, and mentioning it later in the conversation is unbelievably helpful at making female friends. I’d assume it helps for guys too.

Good move. You need to personify what you want the pheromones to project. This statement tells me you realize that you make the pheromones and that the pheromones don’t make you. This is something that takes a lot of people (and even me) a long time and a lot of “no hits dude WTF?” to understand.

I was the same exact way. I kept to myself in high school. I had a few close friends, but didn’t really talk to anyone else and I was just very introverted. My senior year I loosened up a bit, but didn’t really come out of my shell and become the guy I am now until freshman year of undergrad. Through mutual friends, I met a friend that I’m now close enough to that I think of him like a brother. Hanging out with him completely changed me. Whenever we went out he would just go up to and talk to random girls all the time. He rarely hesitated to do it too. Having to be a wingman pruned my social skills with women A LOT. I now find myself helping out some friends the same way that my friend helped me.

I have to say though, that my biggest turning point was when I realized all on my own that I really don’t give a F! I honestly can’t remember what brought about this change in me, but it changed everything for me. I stopped caring about what people thought of me and did things because I wanted to and because I liked it. I also stopped caring what girls thought of me. If I hit on a girl and she denied me, then I just thought screw it, there are tons of other girls that would be into me, and I would find them.

I’m not saying the PUA stuff doesn’t work, but I’ve never been very fond of it. Some of it just seems outrageous and over the top. I reccommend nothing more than having confidence in yourself. Any girl will tell you that is the sexiest thing in a man - pure confidence (not cockiness). This is just something that will come to you with time.

Naw dude, you’re fine. You’re in college, you can meet more people in 1 day than most will meet in a lifetime. You just have to put yourself out there. Easier said than done, I know. Something that I started doing in undergrad that helped me out tremendously was that I started smiling at every girl that walked past me. Didn’t matter if they were 4s or 10s. I would smile at all of them. The hot ones would sometimes get a “What’s up” while walking past them. Doing this really boosted my confidence because it displayed my confidence to women and they responded very well to it. I always had girls starting conversations with me because of this. Again, they don’t have to be hot. Even the decent looking girls were good to practice flirting and basic conversational skills with women.

Lol, this is why they are on the dancefloor. Either to dance with their friends or to dance with a guy. My brother makes fun of me because he knows I like dancing at clubs and says it’s “homo” for a guy to dance. I tell him “what’s homo about grinding on a girl’s ass and dancing so good that her friends grab you to do the same with them?” :stuck_out_tongue:. But yeah, don’t feel weird, and even more important, don’t feel bad when you get turned down. I say “when” and not “if” because you will get turned down, we ALL do. It’s all just a numbers game really, especially at a bar/club. Don’t let one, two, or even 10 rejections make you feel bad and make you stop trying. There have been times when I got shot down like 4 or 5 times in a row by different girls, only to end up with the hottest girl in the club by the end of the night.

The thing to remember about bars (unless it is a quiet sit-down sports bar kind of place) is that 90% of attraction is based on looks and the way you carry yourself. Don’t walk around looking down, walk with your head up, chest out, and SMILING. If girls see you are having a good time, they will know they can have a good time with you. Nobody likes a sulker .

You aren’t just cute, you are THE SHIT! Remember this and tell yourself this whenever you start getting disappointed with girls. A little cockiness isn’t bad. I’ve been told by many girls that I’m a little cocky, but they find it sexy as hell because of the confidence that it portrays. Again, a little cocky = okay, a lot of cocky = bad.

Just put yourself out there and talk to everyone! Literally, everyone. Guys, girls, old, young (no jailbait :stuck_out_tongue:), everyone. Increasing your general social skills will increase your social skills with women. But just remember you need patience. It took me at least 2 years before totally changing myself into what I am now, and I’m still refining it!

Haha, it’s time to uncage the beast!

scotties, you’re the man! i have a similar situation and i learned a LOT in this post. I guess i’ll be reading this every now and then starting now.

You know Scott…youre right. You know alot of my friends were giving me all this complex advice, but now when I think about it, I just needed a good dose of the basics. Alot of the times, come to think of it, I just didnt smile to girls. I was just way too shy. And you’re right. The PUA stuff could be great and all, but in reality, all it really comes down to is confidence. When I did “get some”, it was really due to my confidence in myself.

Yeah, its time to let him out. Too long have I stayed in the background. To be honest, I’m tired of sulking :stuck_out_tongue:

And yeah, Ive already realized with my first day of testing that its not the pheromones that do all the work. Besides I wouldn’t want that, its not me. It would be…fake.

You know what, thanks for that post, Scott. I’ll take that to heart. I needed something like that. Though this semester is dying down and its finals, when I come back in the spring i’ll be ready to tear this campus apart, (with some CCTM2 at my back haha)

I’m glad I could help you guys out! Just keep your head up and don’t get discouraged. Sometimes you just want to say forget it all, but stick with it. The most important result isn’t the women you will be able to get (but that is a perk ), it’s the confidence that you will gain that will carry you throughout your entire life.
