Anybody using a GPS Navigation unit?

Yeah! Those buggers really suck!

Anyway, I have to wait for about 6-10 days for my package to arrive… (if it arrives)…

eeeek I hope soo too I’d be turning gray on the head by now if it was sent Via USPS, USPS is great don’t get me wrong it get’s screwed up when it reaches it’s designated country even in Australia my packages get stuck and backlogged due to lazy postal service workers who drink more then they work.

There was a woman in New Zealand who received a letter posted from UK dated more than 100 years ago to her address! The letter was addressed to her great-great-grandmother! And a British war veteran received a postcard posted by his sweetheart during World War II, 62 years late!

Ewwww how gross the great great grandmother is probably dead by now, how morbid a letter addressed to a dead person by someone who’s already dead by now too.

nice story Im going to go write a letter now to my boss about what I think of him and where he can stick his Job :stuck_out_tongue: let’s just hope it takes a 100 years also to get to it’s destination :stuck_out_tongue:

…and let’s just hope that you don’t get sacked too!

hey you said 100 years you lied :frowning: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t have a GPS unit, so I haven’t paid attention to this thread until now, as insomnia grips me. Idle’s post reminded me of something funny and totally off topic that happened to me. Back when I was still married, I was doing something in the garage, and was bent over sliding some boxes around. I felt a pop and a pain in my back and went through that very same experience you’ve seen on just about every sitcom ever made. You know, manly man doing manly man things, throws his back out and spends the rest of the episode all bent over and the butt of everyone’s joke?

Yeah, so anyway, my wife drove me to the hospital, and they give me a muscle relaxer and a shot of Demoral in the butt and send me on my merry way. There I am, reclined in the passenger seat in a nice Demoral haze, as my wife navigates the streets in a typical drizzly Pac. Northwest winter evening. We have to divert down a detour because a road crew is doing overnight work on the main thoroughfare toward our house. Well… I think my (now ex)wife has trouble seeing good at night, because we almost hit a concrete divider. The shock and fright sobered me up INSTANTLY. I told her “Pull over into the Costco parkinglot ahead… NOW.”, and took over driving, completely sobered up, not feeling any of the Demoral effects. Luckily I wasn’t hurting either. Must have had a deadly amount of adrenaline flowing through me at the time.

just use my blackjack 2 with google maps…lol isnt the best but ohh well if i travel at least to raleigh or something its kinda helpful…thats y they invented mapquest i suppose =]

yea… i use google maps on my iphone… works pretty well on foot or slow traffic… but if ur moving faster than 20 mph stupid EDGE is too slow to keep up and everything is delayed by 5 r 10 seconds :frowning:

bond

yea well…hopefully a 3g one is coming tomarrow…i seriously wanna sell my blackjack to get a iphone but not with edge…ohohohohohohoho nooooo edge is like getting stuck in line at walmart with old people bickering about oil prices to you and then produce and then all u can do is shake your head and get internally irritated…yes…it happens to people…

but i hope it comes out tomarrow…lots of people are gonna be mad if it doesnt…if not just stick with my blackjack 2..cough eww sometimes

I’m not sure if it is due to the EDGE, I use a 3G phone with “Wisepilot” & “Nav4All” navigation softwares. How many channels you normally received?
This is important if accuracy & consistency is a prime concern. In North America, the WAAS Augmentation systems designed to improve the integrity and accuracy of GPS positioning.

Get the HSDPA phone!

Wow! This model is really cool man! Besides its function as a GPS navigator, it has a lot of cool features including a bra size chart converter for women around the world!

Its digital compass is amazing! I can accurately determine the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca within 3 seconds.

The Acquisition time of this model is really great! I’m sure you won’t regret buying it!

We have Tomtom, Garmin, Uniden, Navman and some chinese brands here. I think Tomtom is the best, with Navman and Garmin coming up behind it. But then again it depends on your country.

Yeah! Despite big competition in the market for portable navigation systems, there are only 3 brands that really matter. TomTom, with it’s market share of 37%, is the world’s largest manufacturer, followed at a distance by Garmin, which holds market share of 25%. The number three is MITAC, also known as MIO with a share of 20% of all the PND sales in the world.

Garmin is market leader in US, while MITAC holds the ropes in Asia. TomTom is the biggest in Europe, and is also market leader in Australia.

That is what the navigator’s seat is for, or passenger seat.
I use a Garmin USB-18 GPS, Laptop provides GPS on a 15" screen very easy to see. With the laptop I can record Data from GPS, Car and allows tweaking of the vehicle operation (boost, fuel, rev limiter, etc…)

Plus it holds all my music, (what is not on the laptop is on my 500 GB external drive, as well as DVD movies, Yes I have over 200GB of MP3 files)

Navman used to be the main player here where I live, they had detailed maps etc but the thing was that each map costed around $100 - 150 USD and they provided limited support. It costs around $400 USD to get a GPS from them.

Since Tomtom entered the market prices have drastically changed. You can download Tomtom maps online (oops) and Navman and other brands had to lower their prices by 100 - 150 USD!

I agree. At the end of the day you get brands who are specialist at GPS and navigation. There are brands such as LG and Samsung who also release their versions of GPS but I feel they are like the newbie into the scene and you don’t always get the ‘secure’ feeling that all your map details/streets are right, unless they are selling rebranded versions of Tomtom devices and are capable with Tomtom maps, which of course they aren’t.

Yeah! When more players in GPS products are coming into the market, it certainly gives an advantage to the end users like us, but the accuracy of the maps is actually lies in the data bases of the 2 major map providers which are TeleAtlas and Navteq. For North America, Navteq is more detailed and said to be up to date, but for Europe, Tele Atlas has better coverage.

I’m using the iGO and Miomap. iGO is a very well designed application and has a rich set of features. Overall the menu system is very logical and well organised. The application is very flexible. You can display the map in various format - cockpit mode, map mode, 2D, 3D, tilt and pan while navigating.

Most functions can be accessed with 2 or 3 keystrokes. That’s a very well designed user interface. iGO’s developer, Nav N Go which is based in Hungary engaged PDAMill, a well known PDA game developer to supply the graphical interface. As a result, the GUI is slick and fast in operation.

I am laughing at those who complain about mobile internet speeds in the US. Over here it’s equivilent to 8.5 USD for 1MB of data transfer. LOL

We’re getting the iPhone here next month, if they don’t change the ridiculous pricing soon I bet no one would buy them!

Hm, @ Mohammad - Does the little arrow pointy thing (your location) update every second or does it move smoothly? That’s the only thing that I don’t like about my GPS (Tomtom One XL), if it was smooth that’d be so cool.

I can dream can’t I?

In my Marbella 5220 model, I do not know to where the arrow is pointing, but in my MIO H610 model, the arrow points smoothly to the North and can be used as a compass although the unit has a digital compass like in the picture shown below.
