I thought it will be good too if forum members who are using GPS Navigation units can share their knowledge and discuss about GPS technology here. Ohhh Boy! I’m off-topic again!
I also import and sell high quality GPS Marbella 5220 & M-500 models from Taiwan using the very well designed iGO My Way map software developed in Hungary.
Garmin is a popular brand world wide. The Garmin Nuvi 200 (3.5") model is one of the most popular GPS model. But I read in a forum that the model does not show POI’s during navigating. I’m not so sure if this feature is displayed by the unit or the map application.
TOMTOM really produce quality GPS. I heard that lots of improvements have been done by the manufacturer lately and the company is said going to be the No.1 GPS manufacturer!
So, how do you drive around with a laptop on your dashboard? Do you have a special holder for it? Why don’t you use a 3.5" unit which is more convenient?
HaHaHa! It reminds me of how women in my country drive!
(sorry, I didn’t mean to offend women, but your post really make me laugh just by thinking of how my ex ruined a brand new car that I bought for her! )
Yeah, the driving in most any country besides america/canada, is insane. I’m sure that many of us have seen one of those crazy driving videos on youtube.
It’s very true! Luckily Michael Schumacher drives on the Sepang F1 Malaysian Circuit (considered the best circuit in the world), if he drives in my town, he will definitely prefer to ride a train!
Tell me about woman driving..
last time i was at a bar and had some drinks
so my wife was supposed to drive me home..
well in the morning i had to fix my left headlight
I am planing to get a 3.5" unit when i get a new car. For now I only use the GPS when i am outisde the City or country.
I have a holder that holds my cell phone in position, and a power cable for the car. It has built in GPS and turn by turn software. You can even define if you are driving or walking.
There was a 21 y.o. girl working in my department many years ago in a Naval base. She bought an old Japanese car. People jokingly used to tell me that she drives fast and used to overtake Beemers and Benzs on highways! So, one day while driving with her usual style, her car overturned! The car was badly damaged and she was injured. She crawled out from the wreckage, smiled at the onlookers and walk back home! Later that year, she was awarded “The Best Employee of The Year” and awarded a sum of money for her dedication to the company. I asked her, “what are you going to do with the money”? She replied “Buy a car again!”
That’s cool! I use a Bluetooth GPS receiver unit with my Sony Ericsson cellphone with Wisepilot software from Sweden and Nav4All from Holland. You can navigate worldwide on your own mobile phone. The only drawback for navigating using a mobile phone is the GPRS charges by the network provider which is quite costly!
DRIVERS with Global Positioning Systems in their cars have been warned to take them out when leaving their vehicles to avoid having the units stolen.
Police said an alarming rise in the number of GPS unit thefts from cars in Melbourne’s city district had prompted the warning to motorists.
"In recent times we’ve seen an increase in thefts of GPS units from cars in multi-level car parks. They are easy items to steal,‘’ Detective Sergeant Pixie Fuhrmeister said.
"It seems offenders notice the mount on the front window and target these vehicles.
"For this reason we recommend the entire unit be removed and taken by the owner.
"Do not leave the unit under the seat, in the centre console or in the glovebox.‘’
Police are running undercover operations in multi-level car parks in an attempt to capture the GPS thieves.
Here in My country if you leave your car at unprotected parking,…
your hole CAR is gone..
you are talking about stilling the GPS…
2 weeks ago they stole from my partners car:
the Ignition System(some computer about), the DVD Screen, the player,
2 Xeon Headlights and all the Carbon decoration.
Thats around 15 000 $ … and guess what.. the insurance
company refused to pay the things. they told us that we took
out part by ourselves and we want the money:mad:
I was thinking to install a “GPS Tracker” in the car for fast tracking and recovery if the car is stolen. Some system use “Immobilizer” to prevent the car from being driven off by thieves. The Police will be glad too for making their job easier.
On the insurance part, those buggers will find 1,001 reasons NOT to pay you!
